About the role

Overview

Security represents the most critical priorities for our customers in a world awash in digital threats, regulatory scrutiny, and estate complexity. Microsoft Security aspires to make the world a safer place for all. We want to reshape security and empower every user, customer, and developer with a security cloud that protects them with end to end, simplified solutions. The Microsoft Security organization accelerates Microsoft's mission and bold ambitions to ensure that our company and industry is securing digital technology platforms, devices, and clouds in our customers' heterogeneous environments, as well as ensuring the security of our own internal estate. Our culture is centered on embracing a growth mindset, a theme of inspiring excellence, and encouraging teams and leaders to bring their best each day. In doing so, we create life-changing innovations that impact billions of lives around the world.

Within Microsoft Security, the Microsoft Graph team plays a pivotal role—serving as the unified API gateway through which security signals, identity data, and compliance controls are surfaced to developers and partners across the ecosystem. While Microsoft Graph spans the breadth of Microsoft 365 data and intelligence, the gateway sits at the center of Microsoft's security posture: it is the chokepoint where authentication, authorization, and compliance controls are centrally enforced for every request, making it foundational to keeping customer estates secure.

Microsoft Graph is the gateway to data and intelligence in Microsoft 365. It provides a unified programmability model that one can use to access the tremendous amount of data in Microsoft 365, Windows, and Enterprise Mobility + Security. Developers around the globe use the wealth of data in Microsoft Graph to build apps and automation for organizations and consumers that interact with billions of users that use Microsoft 365 products for work, school, and personal productivity.

Our team manages the Microsoft Graph API gateway service, which processes millions of requests per second on a global scale for billions of users and supports tens of thousands of APIs from various workloads. This mission-critical service requires high performance, low latency, and exceptional availability (99.999%). Our responsibilities include driving API design patterns, enabling sophisticated data and operation orchestration, centralizing security enforcement, enhancing observability, and meeting compliance and privacy requirements. Additionally, we provide Layer 7 proxy capabilities with a strong emphasis on protocol compatibility, DDoS protection, and minimizing last-mile latency.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about building distributed, highly available, and secure services, with strong attention to detail and a deep commitment to developer experience. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with high-throughput, multi-tenant services and writes clean, well-factored, and well-tested code. Join our team and help developers build experiences that make their end users more productive.

Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
