Overview
The primary purpose of the Registered Dietitian position is to assess and intervene with Infants, Children, Adolescents and Young Adult (New born-26 years) clients, for nutritional risk and education requirements.
Responsibilities
- Performs nutrition assessments in the time frame consistent with the N.J. State Health Code and/or policy and procedure for designated subunits, and triages clients into appropriate level of care to determine time frame for follow-up intervention and intensity of nutritional care required. Documents all nutritional care provided to clients in the medical chart using the S.O.A.P format or as outlined in the policy and procedure for designated subunits.
- Plan menus, incorporating balanced diets supporting healthy nourishment for children and young adults with and without special needs.
- Counsel children and/or parents on healthful eating and basic nutrition.
- Evaluates and monitors client’s progress consistent with policy and procedure, and implements appropriate nutritional care collaboratively with primary care physician or designate. Attends and actively participates in interdisciplinary conferences and Care planning.
- Works together with OB/GYN providers in helping mothers to provide for the proper feeding needs of the new born, including breastfeeding mothers and special cases of malnourished kids.
- Demonstrates clinical competency in all areas of clinical nutrition by maintaining 15 CEU’s per year, participation in peer review and cross training educational activities. Develops and implements clinical research projects collaboratively with clinical nutrition staff, ADCN and/or medical/nursing staff.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Dietetics or Nutrition or a related field plus registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. One (1) year work experience as Registered Dietician in healthcare, including hospitals, nursing homes, long-term care, and clinics preferred.
Board Certified as a Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition/Certification in Pediatric Nutrition from the Commission on Dietetic Registration strongly preferred. Certified Diabetes Educator by National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) preferred. Bilingual preferred.
