About the role

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is seeking full-time New Grad RNs for our Emergency Department Academy and Nurse Residency at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A New Graduate Nurse is either a current nursing student nearing graduation from an RN program or a recent graduate with less than six months of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse. 

Position Highlights 

  • Unit: The Emergency Department at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is a Level I adult and pediatric trauma center equipped with 40 acute care beds, 8 fast track beds, 6 super track beds, 12 observation beds, and 10 transitional care beds, including 2 behavioral health spaces. We offer comprehensive emergency healthcare for all types of injuries and illnesses, ranging from life-threatening conditions like heart attacks and strokes to flu and viral infections. Our team includes over 30 board-certified emergency physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, experienced emergency nurses, sexual assault nurse examiners, forensic nurse examiners, social workers, case managers, and other specially trained staff.
  • Facility: Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, an 885-bed tertiary-care hospital in Winston-Salem and the region's only Level 1 trauma center, serves as the cornerstone of a globally recognized health system that integrates exceptional patient care, cutting-edge research, and comprehensive medical education through a network of community hospitals, specialty locations, and the renowned Wake Forest School of Medicine. 
  • ED Academy: This 24-week academy integrates didactic instruction, clinical experience, and simulations with engaging content, allowing nurses to master emergency care for both adult and pediatric patients.
  • Nurse Residency Program: New Graduate RNs at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist receive supportive training led by dedicated nurse educators, including clinical orientation, specialty-specific learning, and skill-building in clinical decision-making, teamwork, communication, and career development.

Job Summary

The New Graduate Nurse provides nursing care to patients using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). They lead and direct other assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age/developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice.   

What You’ll Need 

  • Less than 6 months of RN experience  
  • Graduation from accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred. 
  • Registered Nurse licensure from the State of North Carolina Board of Nursing 
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required  
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 1 year of hire, per unit guidelines  
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 1 year of hire, per unit guidelines
