Job Description:

*The Department does not sponsor non-immigrant work visas for this position.*

Under general supervision, works within established procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance with Nebraska tax laws. Work is performed in one or more of the following categories: taxpayer assistance, collections, record review and analysis, and inspections.

Job duties include:
1. Assist and educate taxpayers on all motor fuels tax programs, including licensing; regulations; filing of tax forms; and performing basic collection and compliance functions.

2. Review, research, and analyze complex tax returns, taxpayer accounts, databases, and tax processing reports to determine compliance with tax laws and resolution.

3. Contact taxpayers by phone, email, or letter to resolve delinquency in filing of returns, payment of liabilities, results of reviews, and the consequences of non-compliance.

4. Track the movement of fuel between licensed filers.

5. Process electronic returns on a rotating basis.

6. Research diverted loads and data received from other states.


 

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in business OR Two years of experience with tax return preparation, business ownership and operation, account research and analysis, or interpretation and application of policies, laws, rules, or regulations.


 

Knowledge of: Mathematics and accounting; business operations and practices; resources available for researching laws, rules, and regulations.

Ability to: Communicate to express clear and concise ideas; use deductive techniques to determine information sought; organize and verify data/information from computer generated reports; set priorities; relate effectively with people representing a wide variety of backgrounds; interpret difficult tax programs for taxpayers; work independently.
