- Location: U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
CW is seeking a dependable Senior Janitor to perform daily custodial duties while providing hands-on guidance and support to team members, helping maintain a clean, safe, and positive work environment.
- Perform routine custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, restroom sanitation, and disinfecting high-touch surfaces
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and organization across all assigned areas
- Lead by example by demonstrating proper cleaning techniques, safe work practices, and professionalism
- Provide day-to-day guidance and hands-on support to team members, reinforcing tasks and procedures
- Assist with on-the-job training for new employees, including proper equipment use and safety practices
- Offer encouragement and constructive feedback to support team members’ growth and confidence
- Monitor work areas and proactively identify cleaning needs or areas requiring additional attention
- Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply shortages to management in a timely manner
- Ensure proper use, care, and storage of custodial equipment and supplies
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with team members and supervisors to support a collaborative work environment
What You’ll Need to Be Successful:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required
- Site Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Valid RealID
- Must be able to obtain and maintain government base access.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2–3 years of custodial or janitorial experience required
- Experience in commercial, institutional, or contract environments
- Experience supporting, training, or mentoring others in a work setting
- Hands-on experience with cleaning techniques and custodial equipment (e.g., buffers, scrubbers, vacuums) required
- Knowledge & Abilities:
- Knowledge of standard cleaning methods, equipment, and safety practices
- Ability to demonstrate and explain cleaning techniques in a clear and supportive manner
- Understanding of safe chemical handling, including the ability to read and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and product labels
Bonus If You Have These Skills:
- OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour General Industry Safety Certification preferred
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to provide clear guidance and feedback
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on maintaining quality standards
- Ability to identify and address routine issues and escalate concerns appropriately
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic work environment
