Overview

We are designing the grid of the future! 

The Technical Director of Independent Engineering will drive our firm’s growth strategy by establishing and leading our Independent Engineering and bankability assessment services. This dynamic and strategic leader will develop and oversee evaluations of the economic, technical, regulatory, and contractual viability of energy infrastructure projects. Established relationships with financial institutions and tax equity providers are critical for this role.

Responsibilities

How you can make an impact:

  • Conduct Comprehensive Project Evaluation: Assess financial, regulatory, technical and commercial aspects to support equity investors, lenders, and developers during transactions and financing stages.
  • Lead Multidisciplinary Due Diligence: Execute key deliverables and serve as the technical lead on commercial due diligence and bankability assessments.
  • Drive Client Engagement: Lead strategic conversations with clients, provide tailored advisory insights, and communicate the unique value proposition of their projects.
  • Deliver and Present Findings: Support presentations of due diligence findings and assist clients in engaging with financial service providers.
  • Expand Industry Relationship : Cultivate and strengthen relationships with clients, investment firms, tax equity providers and financial stakeholders.
  • Ensure Strategic Alignment: Work closely with internal leadership to ensure alignment with the firm’s strategic goals and service offerings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a senior advisor to sponsors, investors, and lenders during transactions.
  • Lead the development and delivery of commercial due diligence reports, and presentation materials.
  • Translate complex technical and financial findings into clear, actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with clients to assess project bankability and advise on financing strategies.
  • Provide perspectives on market dynamics, curtailment risks, basis risk, affecting project cash flows.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams for holistic project evaluations.
  • Ensure timely execution of deliverables and effective resource management.
  • Offer expertise on energy market trends, financial models, and regulatory environments.
  • Monitor and respond to market, regulatory, and policy trends.
  • Facilitate engagement between project stakeholders to support financing processes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with financial institutions and industry stakeholders.
  • Support business development efforts and contribute to strategic client growth initiatives.
  • Represent EPE in external meetings, industry conferences, and professional committees.
  • Refine and maintain standardized templates, tools, and content libraries.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and technical excellence.

 

Qualifications

  • Commercial Insight: Technical fluency in project development, contracting, and financial modeling.
  • Risk Identification: Expertise in identifying project risks and analyzing complex deal structures.
  • Independent Evaluation: Proven ability to support the investment or acquisition process through credible evaluations.
  • Communication Skills: Strong ability to lead strategic conversations and present due diligence findings.
  • Client Support: Experience in engaging with financial service providers and supporting clients during transactions.
  • Strategic Vision: Forward-thinking mindset and passion for advancing energy project development.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to build and maintain client relationships.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, economics, or a related field; advanced degree or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in project finance, technical advisory, or commercial due diligence for energy or infrastructure assets.
  • Expertise in financial modeling for energy sector projects, including tax equity and non-recourse debt structures.
  • Strong understanding of power markets, interconnection process, project lifecycle, PPA contracts, and debt financing strategies.
  • Familiarity with U.S. energy policy, tax credits (e.g., ITC, PTC, 45Q, 45V), and market trends.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex data and generate actionable insights.
