Job Description

Position Overview:

KIPP Kansas City is seeking an HR Manager to oversee and optimize HR operations in alignment with KIPP KC's goals and values. This role entails managing end-to-end HR functions, enhancing employee relations, and guiding HR initiatives that support organizational culture and operational excellence. The HR Manager will play an essential role in refining HR policies, supporting employee development, and fostering a positive, inclusive, and effective workplace culture. This position requires strong analytical, managerial, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Onboarding & Hiring

  • Oversee the onboarding process to ensure a smooth transition for new hires, including confirming salary placement, drafting offer letters, and managing onboarding requirements.

  • Collaborate with campus leaders to enhance the hiring process, ensuring alignment with KIPP KC’s standards and values.

  • Coordinate with the Chief of People & Strategy to assess staffing needs and support proactive recruitment strategies.

Payroll & Benefits Administration

  • Lead payroll processing to ensure accuracy and timeliness, addressing discrepancies and implementing improvements for seamless payroll cycles.

  • Manage employee benefits programs, providing guidance and support on enrollment, claims, and benefit inquiries.

  • Develop strategies to improve payroll accuracy, including setting expectations for timely timesheet submissions and reviewing payroll practices regularly.

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Act as the primary point of contact for employee concerns and facilitate conflict resolution, promoting a positive work environment.

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws, including maintenance of accurate employee records and certifications.

  • Investigate and resolve employee relations issues, collaborating with legal and management teams as necessary.

HR Operations & Systems Management

  • Oversee the HRIS and Benefits Management systems, maintaining accurate employee information and supporting data-driven decision-making.

  • Regularly update and manage the internal HR website and resources, ensuring they reflect current policies and are easily accessible for staff.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to optimize HR workflows and enhance service delivery.

Policy Development & Communication

  • Develop, update, and communicate HR policies and procedures to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with organizational values.

  • Provide ongoing training and resources to managers and employees regarding HR policies, employee rights, and workplace expectations.

  • Collaborate on the creation and distribution of the monthly HR newsletter and other communications that promote transparency and engagement.

Strategic HR Initiatives

  • Support the Chief of People & Strategy in strategic initiatives, including workforce planning, DEI initiatives, and employee engagement programs.

  • Collect and analyze data from exit interviews, surveys, and feedback sessions to identify trends and recommend retention strategies.

  • Lead or support HR projects and initiatives, including surveys, engagement events, and professional development sessions.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred;

  • 1-3 years of HR or administrative experience, preferably within education or nonprofit sectors;

  • Strong understanding of HR principles, employment laws, and best practices;

  • Excellent organizat
