Job Purpose
This role will support the development of High Voltage Power Electronics Component such as Traction Drive Inverters, DC/DC Converters, Onboard Chargers, Battery Disconnect Units, etc. for both current and future product needs. The role will support design for both current production and future production products targeting best in class components for efficiency, space, mass and cost.
Responsibilities (80s of the Position)
- Develop/support the development of mechanical architecture and packaging of high voltage electronics for vehicle platforms
- Design, develop, analyze and test mechanical components
- Support from a mechanical standpoint the various control and power components, such as control, sensing, gate drivers, power supplies, passive (capacitor and magnetic components), filters, busbars, gate etc..
- Support mechanical layout and guide the mechanical design and layout of printed circuits and substrates for control, sensing, power supplies and gate drivers etc.
- Support verification and validation of mechanical components
- Support integration, operation and testing various components in the various vehicle platforms
- Support DFMEA and PFMEA
- Support vehicle manufacturing and Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers
Required Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree with a minimum of 0-3 years industry experience in the field of power electronics mechanical design and packaging. Other educational backgrounds would be considered with and appropriate background and experience, e.g. Aerospace, Automotive and Industrial Engineering or others.
- Familiarity with mechanical design tools and 3-D modeling using Catia (preferred), NX and Team Center or similar modeling tools including part design, assembly, and drafting.
- Experience with power electronics design and test from a mechanical standpoint
- Relevant experience and or coursework in the areas of mechanical and structural design, thermal analysis and vibration
- Effective communication skills and good judgement in task-prioritization.
Preferred Experience
- Master of Science or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. Other educational backgrounds would be considered with and appropriate background and experience, e.g. Aerospace, Automotive and Industrial Engineering or others.
- Experience with the mechanical design and release of at least one Automotive or Aerospace component: Body structures, Interior trim, electronic modules or Propulsion hardware.
- Experience and familiarity with mechanical design tools and 3-D modeling using Catia (preferred), NX and Team Center or similar modeling tools including part design, assembly, and drafting.
- Experience with power electronics design and test from a mechanical standpoint
- Experience with GD&T (per ASME Y14.5) and Tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Experience in Casting and Injection molded parts design and release.
- Experience with mechanical design for automotive components and vehicle platforms
