Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Business Development Manager, based near any major AECOM office in the United States, to focus on capturing work related to water resources, wastewater, water treatment, piping/conveyance, and more for our West Region Water Business Line.
You will collaborate with a team of Sales, Strategy, and Capture Managers who provide leadership and strategic direction to diverse pursuit teams. This key position is designed to support the development of market share and build top-line revenue for AECOM. In addition to supporting the initiatives that drive response, this role requires extensive relationship-building skills and strategies that work both within and beyond the West Region Water Business including developing relationships with leaders that span the geographies and business lines.
You will work in collaboration with client account managers, proposal managers, market sector leaders, regional business leaders, and technical staff to create and facilitate teams that win work with new and existing clients.
You will work on selected opportunities and oversee bid strategies, pricing, teaming, and proposal strategies. You will be expected to support the internal strategy and risk management for opportunities.
In this role, you will lead strategic pursuits and act on the behalf of the executive sponsor for the opportunity. You will also support the development of mega pursuits as a member of a team.
The ideal candidate is an accomplished, hands-on business developer who understands project management, contracts, and proposal development. You will be expected to edit, write, and review content and have some familiarity with the client types in order to be conversant in their terminology, policies, organizational structure, etc.
This key position is designed to develop market share and build top-line revenue for AECOM and provide our clients focused solutions. You will have the ability to use your skills and experience to contribute to a successful business practice and shape infrastructure that serves our communities.
EXPECTATIONS OF THE ROLE
- Promote teamwork, maintain positive morale, and instill a creative culture within the practice
- Collaborate and develop an integrated approach across AECOM’s business lines
- Contribute to furthering the business development process in the Water business line
- Support client business development relationships and activities
- Support the execution of strategies, major proposals, and interviews
- Serve as an ambassador for the broader AECOM business
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Flexibility to travel on a regular basis
- Business Development on key pursuits (Gross revenue $15 million or greater)
- 10 years of relevant business development experience
- Strong understanding of the A/E/C industry, specifically in water resources, wastewater, water treatment, and piping/conveyance marketplace
- Be able to participate in creating a track record of winning bids at 60% or greater.
- Being able to develop strategic initiatives in emerging markets is desired.
- Must have the ability and desire to work with and mentor key employees – helping them learn business development tools and processes
- Must possess the ability to work across multiple markets or business lines
- Must have the ability to work collaboratively with various market leaders and regional executives in a matrix organization
- Active membership and participation within various engineering markets (e.g. DBIA, ASCE, AWWA, WEF, etc.)
