Company Overview: Wabtec’s KinetiX team is dedicated to the design, delivery, and support of KinetiX inspection technologies products for railroads worldwide. The KinetiX Inspection Technologies suite offers automated proactive monitoring solutions for rolling stock condition, ranging from component-level to full train inspection. 

 

Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Sr. System Design Engineer to join our team and contribute to the design and optimization of our Wayside inspection products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electromechanical systems, software, and machine vision analysis (MVA). This role requires a deep understanding of inspection system trade-offs and optimization, as well as what drives product reliability and performance. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Analyze and close gaps in product design for reliability and performance by understanding system trade-offs and optimization between electromechanical components, software, and machine vision algorithms. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of all system components. 

  • Identify and address design or reliability gaps, proposing and implementing solutions to enhance performance and durability. 

  • Drive the design and development of next-generation products, incorporating innovative technologies and methodologies. 

  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of system designs to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements. 

  • Provide technical support and guidance to other team members and stakeholders. 

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in rail wayside inspection systems and related technologies. 

System Engineering Capabilities: 

  • Develop and maintain system architecture and design documentation. 

  • Perform system-level analysis and modeling to ensure optimal performance and reliability. 

  • Define and manage system requirements, ensuring traceability and verification. 

  • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies. 

  • Lead system integration and testing activities, ensuring all components work together seamlessly. 

  • Utilize systems engineering tools and methodologies to drive continuous improvement. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or proven track record in Wayside inspection products 

  • Proven experience in systems engineering, particularly in rail wayside inspection systems. 

  • Strong knowledge of electromechanical systems, software development, and machine vision analysis (MVA).
