WHEN & WHERE YOU’LL WORK: 

Hybrid: This role will be a mix of in-office work at our corporate headquarters in Del Mar, CA and remote work. This position is expected to be in office 3 days per week but may vary depending on business demands. 

A DAY IN THE LIFE:

Join our team as a Systems Engineer II and play a key role in shaping the future of our innovative pump technology. You'll support system engineering activities within new or ongoing product development projects and work cross-functionally to enhance the definition, design, and development of Tandem’s mobile applications.

This position will focus on designing end-to-end solutions that enable clinical and non-clinical customer workflows across the product lifecycle for upcoming mobile application releases through collaboration with diverse stakeholders. Under the guidance of systems engineering leadership, the Systems Engineer II will also define system-level requirements, interface definitions and subsystem designs.

  • Develops, documents, maintains, and communicates system and subsystem requirements and design, in coordination with various stakeholders such as Engineering, Product Management, Cybersecurity, Information Technology and Quality Assurance.
  • Provides system expertise to support on-market-products technical support troubleshooting, failure analysis, and triage of system level issues.
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of inter-system interface specifications and contracts, considering cross-subsystem impacts.
  • Contributes to the risk management process and derives risk mitigation requirements.
  • Maintains tight collaboration with the teams responsible for product V&V, reviews test plans and protocols, and helps triage issues uncovered during testing activities.
  • Works closely with the SW and HW development teams to flow down the system and subsystem requirements and assist with establishing traceability.
  • Traces system and subsystem requirements to the user and business needs defined for the product.
  • Identifies and document system interdependencies to mitigate hazards, failure modes, and other risks.
  • Maintains system level architectural diagrams and requirements on an ongoing basis for assigned features.  
  • Supports other departments as needed and considers ecosystem impacts in decision making.

    WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

    • Knowledge, skills & abilities:
      • Demonstrated capability in Systems Engineering practices such as requirements management, design trade-off and cost-benefit analysis, system failure modes and adversarial scenario analysis.
      • Demonstrated ability to collaborate on complex customer workflows across stakeholders and translate that to an underlying solution across various development and 3rd party subsystems. 
      • Ability to dive into the details and analyze different cross functional inputs to produce suitable solutions.
      • Ability to work and deliver a high-quality work product with mentoring.
      • Ability to analyze possible solutions using technical experience and established precedents. Uses prescribed guidelines or alternatives in analyzing situations.
      • Ability to effectively convey information related to work product and lead review discussions.
      • Familiarity with one or more of the following: ISO 13845, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, 21 CFR part 820.30-Design Controls, HIPAA and/or GDPR, preferred.
    • Minimum certifications/educational level:
      • Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in System Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engi
