What we do:
The Manager, Energy Management System (EMS) HW/SW (hardware/software) focuses on managing engineers involved in architecting, design & development of Battery Management System hardware and high voltage (BMS HW and HV) electrical systems at Module level and Pack level from concept to completion for our Energy Storage Systems (ESS). This position is responsible for managing HW/SW resources and delivering detailed HW & SW design, design analysis, prototype verification and production support for testers and product manufacturability. The role works closely with other Algo /Cell Engineers in the Battery team and other cross functional team members to develop HW/ SW requirements and to support integration testing at Powertrain, ESS system, or Cell module level.
What you can do:
- Manage HW and SW engineers responsible for the overall architecture and validation of HVBMS system at module and system level including HV distribution
- Responsible for functional safety and redundancy architecture of HV BMS
- Control interface definition development between peer sub systems
- Develop architectures for HV BMS for new and innovative ESS solutions
- Ensure requirement traceability between BMS and other higher and lower-level systems
- Progress and maintain design processes within EMS team
- Oversee hiring and retain high performing EMS team within ESS
- Review team deliverables and responsible for timely and quality delivery of designs and documents for aircraft integration
- Investigate and resolve development issues, direct resources, and drive effective corrective actions using RCCA processes
- Other duties as assigned
What you can contribute:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering required; Master’s or PhD degree preferred
- Minimum of twelve (12) years of demonstrated experience in BMS hardware, HV distribution for large battery pack development and successfully ramping up in production (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this role)
- Demonstrated technical management experience in HV battery management system and HW & SW development
- Experience in low voltage BMS HW design and good analog / mixed signal / power electronics design also acceptable
- Expert in architecting and designing analog & mixed signal high voltage using the latest cell monitors and master BMS microcontrollers for HW and SW
- Expert in HV DC/DC, Contactors, fuses selection for HV ESS applications with excellent understanding of HV safety and protection methods
- Expert in HW simulation tools like PSpice and modeling tools like MATLAB, SIMULINK
- Expert understanding of lithium based cell chemistries, their protection requirements, and gauging challenges
