JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The Senior Director, Business and Finance - Winship is responsible for the strategic management, planning, and execution of all financial activities for Winship Cancer Institute. Reporting to Chief Administrative Officer, serves as a key member of the leadership team responsible for ensuring the financial health and long-term sustainability of the Institute.
  • Provides oversight of all financial management functions while supporting a complex research and educational financial portfolio.
  • Partners with the clinical finance team at Emory HealthCare for financial aspects related to the cancer service line.
  • Oversees all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
  • Partners with Winship leadership in the development and administration of the annual operating budget for the Cancer Center's budget crosses relevant schools, university and healthcare operations and budget cycles.
  • Oversees strategic financial planning, budget development and consolidation of financial reports for the cancer center.
  • Prepares annual financial budget and internal monthly financial analysis including reports of operating results against budget.
  • Ensures accurate interpretation and analysis of financial results, while also providing analyses, interpretation, and justification of budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Winship, Emory University and Emory Healthcare.
  • Responsible for all areas of financial planning & analysis, which includes developing financial and business plans, driving forecasting process, partnering with, and providing strategic support to senior leaders, and driving analyses for key issues.
  • Develops standard operating procedures for the entire group. Ensures the credibility of Winship financials and provides timely and accurate analyses of budgets, financial trends, and forecasts.
  • Drives financial success for Winship through assessment of financial goals and business opportunities.
  • Works with the CAO and other oncology leaders to develop strategies that measure and enhance the productivity and financial performance of the various departments and initiatives of the cancer center.
  • Analyzes activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine progress toward stated goals and objectives; conducts return on investment (ROI) analyses; oversees development of business plans for all programmatic areas; provides related results to Winship and other partner leaders.
  • Analyzes and advises on the financial impact of strategic plans and new business/program development.
  • Participates in the development of the plans and programs as a tactical partner by providing timely and accurate analyses of budgets, project proposals and business trends.
  • Oversees the research and analysis of incoming issues using available resources with a focus on identifying proactive solutions to improving effectiveness of the process and the appropriate modality for improvement.
  • Analyzes oncology endowments and recommend ideas on the appropriate use of the endowment income funds.
  • Ensures endowment income for scholarships are awarded on a timely basis in line with the funding balance.
  • Oversees communication, staff engagement initiatives and professional development for finance professionals within the Finance Department.
  • Oversees guidance on how to use and interpret Finance Systems activity. Hires, coaches, and develops staff with a focus on high performance, collaboration and problem solving.
  • Manages two or more financials analysts/business managers/leaders.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or finance.
  • Ten years of related financial experience.
  • Positions in this classification may require a Certified Public Accountant.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.

PREFERRED QUALICATIONS:

  • Financial experience in a complex academic medical center, healthcare, and/or oncology research/patient care environment preferred.
