This role is responsible for bringing technical expertise to build automation and analysis solutions, and guide business users as they learn to leverage the advanced automation/analysis tools. It is expected that the individual is aware of and possesses the technical aptitude to learn technical solution development best practices, and stay current on new technology trends and developments which can benefit Markel.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide expertise, knowledge and insight to help Markel improve performance, grow by solving problems and finding new and better ways of doing things
- Responsible for building, and implementing technical solutions using SQL, Alteryx, the Microsoft Power Suite and other technical tools
- Collaborate with team members to clarify and validate data requirements and business objectives
- Execute various documentation and knowledge transfer plans to hand off implemented software solution to end user community
- Participate with cross functional project teams in line with agile principles
- Serve as an Analytics Enablement Partner on projects outside of Finance
- Understand work flow and process pain points and work with the team to creatively generate ideas and implement change through the application of automation tools
- Develop talent by sharing technical knowledge and automation ideas
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge in area of expertise through proactive research and continuing education so as to achieve functional objectives
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree (Math, Finance, MIS, Data Analytics, Data Science, etc.)
Work Experience/Skill Set
- 3+ years of experience with data analytics, workflow automation, and process improvement
- Possess intermediate technical skills
- Experience in data analysis using SQL, Azure, and other database management tools a plus
- Proficiency in Alteryx a plus
- Willingness to learn new technologies
- Ability to successfully participate on project teams
- Serve as a catalyst for change
- Solid time management and organizational skills to support multiple technical initiatives

The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The salary for the Sr. Technical Analyst position is $75,000 - $85,000 with a 25% bonus potential.
