Position Overview

As a Consulting Actuary you will work with a team of industry professionals on regulatory consulting and other insurance industry engagements.  This position is a leadership role and has opportunity for advancement as well as personal and professional growth.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as the health actuarial subject matter expert on client engagements related to financial exams, rate filing reviews, special studies and research projects.  Lead key client engagements, prepare original actuarial analysis, oversee internal resources, advise project team on potential solutions and strategies to meet project goals and client needs, adhere to project budget and timelines, train and mentor junior staff, and lead health actuarial recruiting efforts to support growth.  Partner with other firm resources on cross-disciplinary projects and ensure actuarial work is delivered with high quality and within budget.

Business development; create new business opportunities through individual selling efforts as well as by supporting team sales initiatives, cultivate and nurture client relationships to create awareness of Firm capabilities to help generate incremental business, assist in formulating proposals demonstrating our value proposition and our solutions.

Contribute to the intellectual capital of the practice and Firm. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, or Statistics; MBA and/or professional certification/s is required  
  • Minimum of 10-15+ years professional experience preferably with time spent in a state insurance department, health insurance company or consulting firm.  Some consulting experience preferred.
  • ASA or FSA, MAAA designations required
  • Experience with Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Medicare Supplement products required
  • Experience with Medicaid and other health products preferred
  • Proven business development skills preferred
  • Strong understanding of actuarial concepts including: health rating, reserving, underwriting, financial modeling and analysis, risk management, pricing and reinsurance.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • PC skills, including experience in using software for producing presentations, spreadsheets, and project planning (MS Office Suite and other applications)
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels including executives and senior managers
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, presentation, and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, projects and assignments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Dynamic/flexible demeanor with strong client service skills
  • Forward-thinking leader with a collaborative focus who can consult effectively with key constituents and become recognized as a valued resource
  • Must be self-motivated and possess a sense of urgency
  • Skilled in team building and team development
  • Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional standards as outlined by the Firm
