About the job
As the Director of Software, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire software development lifecycle, from conception to delivery of the Visby Medical Digital Companion software. The software functions as a companion to the Visby device and works to enhance the customer experience, ease test interpretation, allow creation of a patient record, and safely and securely allows integration with important third party stakeholders in the health system. Software is a new function at Visby and as such, you will play a key role in shaping the technology strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives, and driving the successful execution of software projects. This is a leadership position that requires a combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and effective team management.
How you'll make an impact:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Build and provide strategic leadership to the software development team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Manage a combination of outside development firms, third party vendors, and internal software developers, with a core focus on determining the optimal combination of the three at various stages of Visby’s growth
Strategic Planning:
- Be the software subject matter expert at Visby. Serve as key adviser to senior management on developing strategic initiatives to enhance software products and services, including in business discussions with potential partners
- Collaborate with Product Management to define software development goals and roadmaps aligned with overall business objectives.
Product Development:
- Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from ideation to deployment, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.
- Collaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
- Collaborate with assay scientists and hardware engineers to solve technical problems that involve the interface of the Visby device and Digital Companion software
- Follow process outlined in IEC 62304:2006, Medical device software life cycle processes. Process ensures compliance with rigorous cybersecurity standards
Technical Excellence:
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to guide the team in adopting best practices and implementing innovative solutions.
- Ensure the team adheres to coding standards, conducts thorough testing, and follows rigorous deployment processes to ensure high functioning and well documented software that can be included in an FDA submission prior to being cleared for use in commercial settings.
Resource Management:
- Manage resources effectively, including budget allocation, staffing, and project prioritization.
- Work closely with HR to recruit, onboard, and retain top-tier software development talent.
On your first day we'd like you to have
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field with 10+ years experience
- Proven experience (5+ years) in a leadership role within software development.
- Significant experience serving as a product architect
- Proven experience managing data flows, APIs and third party integrations
- Experience with managing back end engineering teams and processes, with an understanding of server architecture and database systems
- Experience with managing internal and external development teams, including offshore teams in different time zones
- Familiar with basics of machine learning techniques and their interface with engineered software products.
- Need to know enough to ask the right questions and make sure machine learning elements fit well with the rest of the code
It's great if you have
- Expertise in Computer Vision and/or Machine learning techniques
- Experience developing software in a regulated environment such as following IEC 62304:2006, Medical device software life cycle processes
Salary range:
- $230,000 - $269,279 (Salary range for candidates based in San Jose, CA)
- Compensation for the role is based on geographical location.
- Compensation also depends on a number of factors including a candidate
