General Summary: Provides leadership and oversees all aspects of the Cross Country (fall) and Track & Field (spring) programs, to include coaching both teams; planning, organizing, and supervising team practices; actively identifying, evaluating, and recruiting student-athletes; and working within federal, state, and local guidelines, office/department, division, and college policies and procedures; and the NCAA and athletic conference guidelines. Reports to the director of athletics and works with students, staff, officials, coaches from other institutions, parents, faculty, and both on- and off-campus constituents.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Coordinates all on- and off-campus recruitment activities within the guidelines of the NCAA for both programs.
  2. Ensures the safety and wellness of players and works collaboratively with the Athletic Training staff on effective and holistic preventative and responsive management of injuries.
  3. Complies with all NCAA, conference, college, department, state, and federal regulations and policies.
  4. Provides leadership and coaching for the intercollegiate Cross Country and Track & Field programs.
  5. Supervises and coordinates the work of assistant coaches, volunteers, and graduate assistants.
  6. Monitors and actively encourages participants to succeed academically and represent the college with leadership and integrity, both on and off the field.
  7. Schedules, implements, and attends all pre-season, in-season, and post-season practices and contests.
  8. Schedules all team contests; coordinates special events, hosts college tournaments, and relevant camps.
  9. Provides financial accountability for all ASC and non-ASC functions hosted by the coach/team/department.
  10. Teaches within the Physical Education curriculum in areas of expertise and/or certification.
  11. Oversees strength, conditioning, nutritional, and financial literacy support for both Cross Country and Track & Field student-athletes.
  12. Prepares athletes for competition and performs post-season evaluations.
  13. Coordinates team travel arrangements including maintaining driver and van certification and meeting all legal requirements to drive college vehicles.
  14. Supervises the laundering and care of team uniforms and the care and maintenance of team facilities and equipment.
  15. Ensures compliance with athletic department facility contracts, scheduling priorities, and guidelines.
  16. Reports weekly recruiting contact data and maintains accountability for recruiting/enrollment benchmarks.
  17. Provides leadership and coaching for the intercollegiate Track & Field team during the spring season, including event-specific training for sprints, distance, hurdles, jumps, and throws.
  18. Coordinates athlete transition and training schedules between cross country and track seasons.
  19. Recruits student-athletes for both Cross Country and Track & Field programs, ensuring a balanced and competitive roster.
  20. Develops individualized training programs that meet the specific technical and physical demands of each track & field event group.
  21. Coordinates meet schedules, travel, and entries for indoor and outdoor track & field competitions.
  22. Oversees the procurement, maintenance, and inventory of track and field equipment (hurdles, blocks, implements, etc.).
  23. Monitors athlete academic progress and eligibility for both programs throughout the academic year.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Undergraduate degree required; masters' degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of two years of work experience at the collegiate level with proven recruiting experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Considerable knowledge of fitness concepts and techniques, NCAA rules and regulations, and sport-specific rules and scoring.
    • Familiarity with recruiting techniques, high school coaches and athletes, and student-athlete concerns.
