JOB SUMMARY

The Chief of Mechanical Street Sweeping is responsible for directing the activities of the Mechanical Street Sweeping operation. Provide day-to-day oversight of the operations priorities supporting the Department of Public Works mission, vision, and multi-year Strategic Plan. Supervises staff, coordinates schedules, monitors performance, and collaborates with other city departments to optimize street cleaning efforts. Direct the development and maintenance of all operational policies and procedures that govern customer service to all City of Baltimore residents and constituents.

           

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Have a master’s degree in business administration, Public Administration, Management, Law, or related field from an accredited college or university

AND

EXPERIENCE: Have six (6) years of senior management, policy-driven operational responsibilities including three (3) years of experience managing homogeneous functions through subordinate supervisors is required.

OR

NOTES EQUIVALENCY: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. Non-supervisory experience or education may not be substituted for the required supervisory experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit may be required.

Professional certifications may be required.

NOTE: PROVISIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSES ARE NOT ACCEPTED.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.  

  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical street sweeping equipment and maintenance procedure.

  • Excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage budgets and resources efficiently.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental compliance standards.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONAL

Background Check                          

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to completed authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening and must be successfully completed.

              

NOTE: Those eligibles who are under final consideration for appointment will be required to authorize the release of criminal conviction information.

Probation 

All people, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.
