Position Summary
The Field Technician III role is network field management focused; and will apply broad knowledge and working experience with networking concepts in the operation, maintenance, and management of telecommunication networks as a member of an experienced multi-vendor multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will be expected to work in a variable work environment that interfaces with multiple inter- and intra-office personnel/departments. This advanced -level technician works with members internal and external to Xcel Energy to support Network stability.
Essential Responsibilities
The Field Technician III works on the Network Communications Field Service team with the primary responsibility of Network Operations Management for Xcel Energy communications network. Has excellent working knowledge of LAN/WAN network field operations and will apply that knowledge to a complex multi-vendor enterprise environment to assist with the repair and management of planned and unplanned events. Field Technician III will make use of field test equipment respond to direct calls from dispatch NOC or leadership and utilize a ticketing system to address and document escalated issues within the scope of this position.
Will be assigned complex projects or shared areas of responsibility that may include the oversight of other technicians or project stakeholders. Will work with Technician I's II's Leads and Management to continuously improve upon technical and process related policies and procedures while providing support and advisement to Technician I's & II's.
Directs support and coordination for high priority incidents.
Able to work with multiple carriers and/or intra-department technicians for further troubleshooting/isolation of layer 1 - 3 issues
Be responsible for ensuring Xcel Energy and OSHA requirements are met for jobsite safety and security
Minimum Requirements
AS/AAS/BS in related degree field, related certifications, or equivalent documented experience.
6-8 years of network management/ field operations that includes experience with switching/routing, transport, and data using layer 1 - 3 equipment or software.
Proficient to advanced-level experience and understanding of the following: OSI Model, T1 - OC192, PRI circuits and associated network element related equipment, Microwave transmission, Wireless networks, and direct-broadcast satellites, cable management, color coding, power and grounding requirements.
Must be willing to work diverse schedules, including an on-call rotation.
Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License.
Willing to travel throughout the region area often with potential overnight
Preferred Qualifications:
BISCI certifications or equivalent documented experience.
RCDD experience
Direct involvement with hardware and network element management in operations, repair, and maintenance in Enterprise environments.
Additional general network experience in peripheral technologies such as NOKIA, Cisco, Ciena, Infinera, Juniper, and layer 1 equipment involving T1's, DS3's, OC-level circuits.
Experience with documenting changes via a work-ticket related system.

Physical Requirements
This role requires regular physical activity, including frequent mobility throughout the workday.
Employees must be able to regularly lift and carry materials up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work at heights using approved fall protection equipment.
The position involves standing and walking for extended periods and working in confined spaces requiring bending, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
Manual dexterity is required to handle small components and operate tools safely.
Adherence to safety procedures is required at all times.
