Job Title: Senior Database Cloud Administrator

Location: Southfield, Michigan.

The Role:

S&P Global Automotive Insights is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, optimize, and support PostgreSQL databases in both production and non-production environments. This role requires deep expertise in PostgreSQL, cloud infrastructure (AWS), and automation, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and scalability.

You will work closely with DevOps, development, and infrastructure teams to ensure robust database solutions that support large-scale, mission-critical applications within the automotive data ecosystem.

Responsibilities:

Database Administration (PostgreSQL & Oracle)

  • Administer PostgreSQL databases in both production and non-production environments.
  • Perform database tuning, query optimization, and indexing to maintain high performance.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve database performance, availability, and scalability issues.
  • Configure and manage automated backups, replication, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Implement high-availability and failover strategies using AWS RDS and PostgreSQL clusters.
  • Support database migrations, particularly Oracle to Amazon PostgreSQL.

Cloud Infrastructure (AWS)

  • Deploy and manage cloud resources using AWS services including EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch.
  • Automate infrastructure and database provisioning with Terraform (Infrastructure as Code).
  • Support CI/CD pipelines in coordination with DevOps teams to enable seamless database updates.
  • Develop automation scripts using AWS Lambda and other tools to reduce manual workload.

Security & Compliance

  • Enforce database security best practices: encryption, access controls, audit logging.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal data governance policies.
  • Manage PostgreSQL user access, roles, and permissions.
  • Collaboration & Support
  • Partner with development teams to design and optimize database schemas.
  • Assist with large-scale data migration projects (e.g., Oracle to PostgreSQL on AWS).
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support for critical database-related incidents and ensure timely resolution.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and/or Oracle administration.
  • Strong SQL proficiency and deep knowledge of performance tuning, replication, and HA configurations.
  • Experience with database backup strategies, PITR, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Experience migrating Oracle databases to AWS PostgreSQL (preferred).
  • Cloud & Infrastructure
  • 4+ years of experience with AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, CloudWatch, IAM).
  • Proven track record managing PostgreSQL on AWS RDS and EC2.
  • Strong experience with Terraform for infrastructure automation (required).
  • Automation & Scripting
  • Proficient in scripting languages such as Terraform, Python, and Bash.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar platforms.

Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team-oriented, proactive, and collaborative mindset.
  • Familiarity with containerized environments (a plus).
  • Experience with AWS monitoring tools like CloudWatch.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Preferred:
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer
  • Other relevant AWS or PostgreSQL certifications

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only): S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $155,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. In addition to base
