About the role

Hopper is seeking an experienced attorney to lead the legal function for its HTS (Hopper Technology Solutions) business.  HTS is the business-to-business operation of Hopper, responsible for providing rewards travel sites for banks and consumer brands around the world, including Capital One Bank and Uber, and for powering the sale of Hopper’s award winning traveler-flexibility products (including Cancel for any Reason, Premium Disruption Assistance, and HTS Connect) on travel partner sites including Air Canada, among many other clients.  The HTS business also includes responsibility for Hopper Money, supporting payments and wallet functionality for Hopper and HTS partners.  
The Deputy General Counsel for the HTS and Fintech business will report to the group General Counsel, and be responsible for all legal issues arising in in connection with the business, including primarily, new business partner engagement, negotiation and contracting, compliance with consumer protection laws in each HTS partner implementation, protection of intellectual property, and other regulatory and tax issues arising in connection with the HTS and Fintech business in all global jurisdictions.  
The Deputy General Counsel for the HTS and Fintech business will be expected to build a team sufficient to enable the business to continue to grow without restriction, and will work alongside Hopper’s Deputy General Counsel for Consumer and Travel Agency, who is responsible for the legal team managing Hopper’s consumer mobile app and website, and its relationships to airlines, hotels, and other travel industry providers.  
The right attorney for the role will be a leader experience in working with product leads, business development leads, and other senior business partners to provide advice on complex contacting issues arising in connection with large scale white-label technology development and revenue sharing agreements, and complex consumer compliance and regulatory matters  arising in connection with novel consumer travel booking and payment products.  Hopper Legal is a small team of self-starters, each bringing intellectual curiosity and a willingness to dive deep on new and unfamiliar  legal issues in foreign markets to remove blockers and facilitate the closing of new business deals.  Although Hopper’s HTS business has a home base in Canada and significant operations in the U.S., HTS now operates globally with subsidiaries and affiliates in 38+ countries, and major commercial partnerships in countries including the U.K., France, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Hong Kong, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and many others.
