About the role

JOB PURPOSE:

The Regional Engineering Manager is responsible providing leadership to team members whose primary focus is to maintain the optimal performance of Midco’s regional fiber network. This includes directing and coordinating all regional engineering activities to maintain, repair, and upgrade the capacity and integrity of the regional network. Must possess a strong working knowledge and understanding of fiber, coax, RF and HFC systems within the telecom industry.  

KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide leadership, direction and communication of all regional engineering initiatives, including maintaining, repairing, and upgrading the capacity and integrity of the regional network.
  • Oversee action plans for network development, troubleshooting, and improvement to the regional network.
  • Lead and coordinate the regional engineering team’s activities related to service, maintenance, and construction, ensuring the network operates optimally and reliably.
  • Refine and implement maintenance programs, escalations procedures, and ‘loss of service’ response best practices.
  • Proactively manage local network problems and respond appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Provide leadership as the team maintains critical components such as the Headend, fiber infrastructure, and power supply within the network.
  • Direct and oversee the testing and review of system designs and configurations by coordinating efforts across impacted departments and key partners.
  • Take charge of ensuring that technical specifications align with service, regulatory, and franchise standards. Lead the team in maintaining excellence and compliance.
  • Administer team member’s work assignments and accurately schedule shifts to ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Manage maintenance of equipment and related documentation.
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems in the regional network.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in providing technical support and guidance to team members.
  • Produce timely and accurate reports.
  • Provide constructive and timely feedback for team members to foster engagement. Provide coaching, training and stretch opportunities to increase team performance.
  • Perform quarterly reviews and effectively manage disciplinary and/or performance issues.
  • Possess knowledge of Midco’s safety program (Target Zero), practice and enforce safety rules and procedures. Wear safety apparel which includes hard hats (where required), safety vests, OSHA approved boots, etc.  Operate all equipment in a safe manner.
  • Maintain current, valid driver’s license and good to excellent driving record (DUI within the last 5 years disqualifies you for employment in this position).
  • Operate and drive a Company vehicle in accordance with all Midco policies including maintaining a safe driving record.
  • Drive/maneuver vehicle and cable trailer in and around construction sites, parking lots, etc.
  • Follow and serve as a role model in displaying Midco’s Core Values and Leadership Success Drivers.
  • Adhere to Midco’s privacy guidelines to ensure each customer’s privacy.
  • Maintain regular attendance to be available to provide direction and communication to team members.
  • Be available to provide assistance to team members outside of normal business hours as necessary.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s Degree in electronics, or SCTE BCT or BCE certification preferred.
  • NCTI certifications through Fiber
