About the role

The Role
Moderna is seeking an Associate Director of Communications to lead integrated communications activities and help increase visibility for its science, business and reputation as a good corporate citizen and top employer, both internally and externally. This individual will work within the Brand & Corporate Affairs team and engage directly with leaders across the organization. We are seeking a candidate who can succeed in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment, while also being self-motivated and able to work independently.


They will have excellent written and verbal communications skills; be fluent in social and digital communications engagement and strategy; have experience managing agencies and vendors; and be comfortable working with corporate and program teams across a complex organization and multiple sites and geographies. In addition, they will help develop and manage a range of initiatives, including the creation and execution of internal communications plans, corporate reputation activities and community and employee engagement programs that support our global workforce, dynamic culture and commitment to corporate social responsibility.


The role will be based in Cambridge, MA and will report to the Vice President of Corporate Affairs and work closely with the Director of Corporate Affairs.


Here’s What You’ll Do

  • Oversee the development and implementation of internal and external communications strategies, programs and materials, engaging directly with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Collaborate across the organization to create internal resources and communications channels, helping employees connect to the company’s science, platform, business, and each other.

  • Partner with internal departments to create and implement effective campaigns that support employee engagement, change management and recruiting. Seek opportunities to celebrate and promote internal partners’ news and success stories and Moderna as a top employer.

  • Work with internal groups to drive company education, belonging, inclusion and diversity programs, corporate responsibility efforts, and community outreach and engagement.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with HR partners to support Moderna’s employer brand and related internal and external communications.

  • Assist with town hall meetings, webcasts, podcasts, and other internal programs and employee initiatives.

  • Ensure alignment between internal and external communications messaging by partnering with other communications leaders.

  • Help maintain the company’s internal digital platforms and social media channels.

  • Increase awareness and visibility of Moderna’s leadership in mRNA science, platform, pipeline, technology and commitment to corporate responsibility and being an employer of choice.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:
Basic Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in internal and external communications – either in-house or working with corporate clients for a communications agency.

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, organizational development or related area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A high level of initiative, curiosity, strong work ethic, creativity and the ability to balance multiple assignments.

  • A deep interest in science and innovation.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills across teams, cultures and geographies.

  • A collaborative, solution-oriented and problem-solving approach to challenges as well as being open-minded to new ideas and approaches.

  • Team player – both with internal colleagues and agency partners.

  • Ability to be flexible and work well under pressure with minimal supervision.

  • Adaptable, resourceful, driven, with a strong sense of ownership and dedication to personal excellence and constant improvement.

  • Masters in communications, marketing, journalism, organizational development or related field preferred.
