JOB TITLE:   

Aircraft Maintenance Technician OR Aircraft Maintenance Technician Sr.

JOB PURPOSE:   

This hands-on position will perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, testing, and general preventive maintenance on university research and transportation aircraft in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations, manufacturers’ requirements, and the highest quality industry standards; participate in extensive aircraft modifications and installation activities for research operations 

Purchase aircraft equipment, parts, and supplies

Assist in maintaining spare parts and ground support inventory

This position involves working on both national and international field projects with occasional hours being worked outside the normal workday, including evenings and weekends along with intermittent travel to support scientific field campaigns.  

This position has been deemed essential as addressed in the University of Wyoming’s Employee Handbook.  Employees in essential positions may be required to work during emergency closures and winter closure based on the nature of their job duties and the reasons for the closure. 

This position is grant funded and considered at-will employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
    • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, testing, and general preventive maintenance on university research and transportation aircraft.
    • Participate in extensive aircraft modifications and installation activities for research operations.
    • Purchase aircraft equipment, parts, and supplies, as directed.
    • Assist in maintaining spare parts and ground support inventory.
    • Refuel aircraft, move aircraft in/out of the hangar, clean aircraft, and assist in pre-flight checks.
    • Assist with routine maintenance.
  • AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN, SENIOR (in addition to AMT)
    • Maintain hangar facilities and aircraft for cleanliness and safety.
    • Support research and transportation aircraft for deployments if maintenance is needed away from Laramie. Research deployments may require extended stays away from Laramie.
    • Accurately complete and maintain all required maintenance documentation, work orders, internal inspection forms, malfunction and defect reports, and aircraft logbooks.
    • Communicate with and assist the crew with manifest, maintenance logs, weather, and preparing aircraft for the flight.
    • Train coworkers on safety and equipment operation.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
    • Assist passengers and crew, as required.
    • Assist with cleaning and maintaining hangar and office areas.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN, SENIOR (in addition to AMT)
    • Communicate effectively with flight crew members on aircraft and/or system discrepancies.
    • Meet arriving and dispatch departing aircraft.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Aircraft Maintenance Technician
    • Education and Experience: Vocational School, Associate’s degree, or 2 years of on-the-job experience.
    • Required licensure, certification, registration, or other requirements: 
      • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
      • Federal Aviation Administration Airframe license
      • Federal Aviation Administration Power Plant Mechanic's license
