Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Chief Operating Officer (COO) who will act as a principal assistant to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the effective administration, operational, and financial management of all aspects of the facility. The COO serves a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and collaborates with the CEO and ELT in the overall operations of the hospital, ensuring the effective delivery of services to patients in accordance with the facility’s mission and regulatory requirements. The COO leads the Support Services Departments, to include Physical Plant, Procurement, Information Technology, Food Services, Environmental Services, and Safety and Security.

The COO will be responsible for the performance management and leadership of staff; addressing and documenting any performance, behavior, and attendance issues as they occur; ensuring that the requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation; providing oversight of the management of departmental budgets; developing plans, policies, and procedures as necessary for the operation of services to meet established goals and strategies (All of which meet the requirements of applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies.); managing and overseeing the use of small purchase cards; and acting as a role model for facility staff members in demeanor and character, modeling transparent, accountable, respectful, and equitable leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

- Degree in Business, Management, Accounting, or Public Administration or equivalent training, coursework or experience
- Considerable experience in a management or supervisory position in a behavioral health or health care setting
- Experience with budget development and implementation.
