A Day in the Life

Are you looking to drive strategic cost improvement initiatives for the leader in the Medical Technology industry? As a core manager of the Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) team supporting Strategy and Technology, you will have responsibility for driving a team to build a savings opportunity pipeline through running VAVE events, building out business cases and managing a team. You will utilize your robust project management skills to lead the OU teams to build out roadmaps, timelines, goals, and budgets. You will be at the forefront of Medtronic’s Mission to Alleviate Pain, Restore Health, and Extend Life by improving our capability to deliver life-saving products and support new product innovation.

This role can be based at any Medtronic location within North America
  • Organize and lead multiday cross functional events with up to 40 attendees to drive new design ideas through brainstorming sessions and business case strategy sessions.

  • Lead a team of engineers and program managers for the ideation through funding phases of new projects. 

  • Work actively with business, sites, contract manufacturing and key strategic suppliers to meet pipeline generation goals.

  • Utilize strong networking and influencing skills to align stakeholders on new design opportunities.

  • Perform cost/benefit analysis to determine feasibility of project in initiation process using latest business proformas.

  • A key responsibility of roles in this career stream is managing people. This includes: accountability for mentoring, developing and coaching staff on meeting/exceeding performance expectations and defined objectives, providing leadership to staff ensuring the prioritization of strategic and department level initiatives to include defining performance goals and targets, conducting performance reviews, and staff 1:1s to guide performance management and employee development efforts and manage toward departmental goals.

  • May travel up to 20%

Must Haves

Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of Business Process, Engineering Program Management and/or Project Management experience OR advanced degree and 5+ years of experience

Nice to Have

  • People Management Experience

  • Advanced Degree

  • PMP Certification

  • DRM Black Belt

  • Experience leading projects/programs including financial accountability

  • Experience working with suppliers and/or contract manufacturers

  • Financial management skills

  • Experience leading cross functional teams

  • Medical Device industry experience

  • Demonstrated strong business acumen and planning experience

  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, listening (with all levels of the organization)

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Comfortable to work with unknowns and developing roadmaps

  • Ability to influence business leaders, stakeholders and individual contributors

  • MS Project software experience
