Job Overview

The Director of Process Engineering & Efficiency leads a team of Process Engineers responsible for mapping and documenting current and future distribution processes. They identify process gaps and opportunities to enhance safety awareness, increase throughput potential, and reduce costs in the distribution center 4-wall facilities. 

 

Collaborating with internal and external business partners, the director examines solutions to address identified gaps. The ideal candidate influences and guides senior supply chain leaders to adopt recommended solutions and teaches the team to make data-driven decisions, model recommended solutions, facilitate Kaizen events, and utilize Lean methodologies to eliminate waste. They possess experience with complex automation solutions and understand their impact on operational processes, including detailed automation requirements. Additionally, the ideal candidate has experience with automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), putaway and pick logic for automation, automated sortation, Warehouse Control Systems (WCS), Warehouse Execution Systems (WES), distribution waving logic, and leverages industry connections to understand the future of warehouse automation. 

 

The Director of Process Engineering & Efficiency sets the strategic roadmap for achieving cost reduction, cycle time improvement, and throughput enhancements to realize Macy’s supply chain investment potential.

 

What You Will Do

  • Develop a strategic vision across Macy's supply chain to optimize throughput while minimizing costs through collaboration with automated vendors.
  • Provide guidance and instruction on continuous improvement techniques to various levels within Macy's supply chain.
  • Lead a team of Industrial Engineers responsible for process mapping, engineering, and modeling.
  • Establish rapport and trust rapidly with operational leaders.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the Theory of Constraints and its impact on automation.
  • Effectively influence and communicate with senior supply chain leadership.
  • Collaborate with Macy's safety team to identify major risks and support incident reduction efforts.
  • Recommend necessary automation, process, and technological changes to achieve supply chain objectives.
  • Partner with other Macy's teams to design future solutions that alleviate bottlenecks and maximize automation potential.
  • Proficiently analyze and interpret data from multiple systems including WMS, WES, WCS, and other data streams.
  • Possess experience with complex ASRS systems such as Autostore, Swisslog, Ocado, Symbotic, among others.
  • Demonstrate expertise in modeling operational flow and understanding of e-commerce waving approaches.

 

Skills You Will Need

Leadership and Communication: Ability to lead a team of Process Engineers, establish rapport with operational leaders, and effectively communicate with senior supply chain leadership.

Strategic Vision: Develop a strategic vision across Macy's supply chain to optimize throughput and minimize costs through collaboration with automated vendors.

Continuous Improvement: Provide guidance on continuous improvement techniques, including facilitating Kaizen events and utilizing Lean methodologies to eliminate waste.

Technical Expertise: Possess experience with complex automation solutions, including ASRS, Warehouse Control Systems, and Warehouse Execution Systems, and understand their impact on operational processes.

Collaboration and Partnership: Collaborate with internal and external business partners to identify and address process gaps, recommend necessary automation, process, and technological changes, and design future solutions to maximize automation potential.

Data Analysis: Proficiently analyze and interpret data from multiple systems, including WMS, WES, WCS, to inform decision-making and strategy development.

Project Management: Ability to effectively plan and execute strategies, manage projects, and demonstrate a sense of urgency in problem-solving.

Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Project, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint, as well as familiarity with Warehouse Control Systems and Material Handling Systems.
