Job Description

O&T Production Engineering (West Coast)
NBC Universal is looking for a talented individual to join the Production Engineering West Coast team as a Senior Engineer, Project Engineering for NBCU Operations and Technology (O&T), based on the Universal City Studios Lot in Los Angeles, California. This role will primarily provide on-hands design and commissioning support for production systems in the LA location, including video, audio, transmission, and postproduction systems, but will work closely with the project and maintenance teams at all locations.

O&T supports Enterprise Technology, Broadcast, and Production systems across NBCU globally.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Senior Production Systems Engineer will lead both project and commissioning efforts, driving systems design and configuration across the business. The core responsibilities include (but are not limited to) vetting vendor solutions, conceptualizing design based on business strategy and playing a leading role as a technology expert within Production Engineering. This role will also research new technologies, beta test, document and provide training to engineers across all sites on new products and processes, creating procedures and managing infrastructure improvements. The position requires a thorough understanding of 2110 routing systems, broadcast control rooms, studio technologies and systems design. Fearless technical curiosity is a must to be successful in this role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Commissioning, Design and Technology Leadership
    • Be the hands-on technical lead for ongoing technical deployments, migration and consolidation efforts, as well as other long-term, complex technical programs such as cross campus IP routing connectivity and full production control room upgrades.
    • Work with client teams, promoting a strong Voice of the Customer, to define requirements and deliver scalable, reusable solutions that creatively solve business challenges, add measurable value, and ensure alignment to the business strategic roadmap.
    • Proactively communicate with vendors, clients, and cross business technology teams to define pain points and drive future development and designs.
    • Actively assist in project estimate and cost modelling.
    • Recognize and propose opportunities for emerging technology solutions.
  • Project Support
    • Provide training and develop documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Collaborate with design engineering teams on project development, specifications, and best practices.
  • Broadcast Industry Tracking
    • Keep informed about trends, and emerging technologies in the broadcast industry marketplace. Be prepared to offer innovative solutions including those from vendors not currently represented in our technology stack.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 8+ years of recent experience with a broadcaster or broadcast industry technology manufacturer.  Truck production or live events experience a plus
  • Must be willing to work rotational shifts, evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays as required in a 24/7 production environment
  • Proficient with technical drawing packages (AutoCAD and Vizio)
  • 2+ years of experience with SMPTE 2110 router (specifically Evertz)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated expert knowledge and extensive experience on common production systems, such as:
    • Audio Systems
      • Calrec production audio mix and distribution
      • Riedel/RTS/Bosch/Clear-Com Intercoms
      • Enco production audio playback
