Sr. Director, Disease and Molecular Pathways (R6)
Job Summary:
The Precision Genetics group within the Data, AI, and Genome Sciences (DAGS) Department is seeking a dynamic and experienced Sr. Director of Disease and Molecular Pathways. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in integrating multi-omic data to elucidate causal disease biology, coupled with exceptional leadership skills to manage a high-performing team of data scientists.
Key Responsibilities:
In this pivotal role, you will:
Lead and Mentor: Manage, mentor, and recruit exceptional team members to create an end-to-end AI/ML pipeline capable of building, evaluating, iterating, and testing the performance of robust models leveraging relevant biological and clinical datasets.
Feature Engineering: Implement an advanced feature engineering process to identify, extract, evaluate, and integrate a comprehensive suite of multi-scale and multi-omic features from proprietary data assets, facilitating rapid AI/ML model development.
Communicate Insights: Translate complex AI/ML strategies and biological data insights into compelling visual narratives for stakeholders, employing best-in-class visualization techniques.
Data Integration: Identify and incorporate appropriate public data sources to enhance AI/ML model building and foster innovation.
Project Management: Tackle challenging projects, proactively anticipate obstacles, and forecast timelines for deliverables, ensuring alignment with pipeline objectives.
Supervision: Oversee the work of junior colleagues, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Collaboration: Partner effectively with experimental scientists in a matrixed environment to develop research plans and optimize resource allocation, maximizing operational efficiency.
Results Communication: Clearly convey research outcomes to project teams, our scientific community, and external stakeholders through reports, presentations, and publications in reputable journals.
Required Experience and Skills:
Ph.D. in a relevant field with a minimum of 10 years of industry experience applying advanced analytical approaches to early drug discovery.
Proven track record of at least 8 years leading high-performance computational teams and nurturing top data science talent.
Demonstrated expertise in developing precision medicine-focused AI/ML models through computational analysis.
Proficiency in coding (R/Python) with the ability to establish best practices for reproducible data analyses.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence stakeholders in complex, matrixed organizations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a talent for conveying complex information clearly and effectively.
Ability to build and maintain productive collaborations with external partners.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Experience in biopharma data science groups, with a focus on establishing long-term data science strategies.
Background in creating multi-omic disease network biology models.
Familiarity with the fundamentals of human genetics and their application in drug discovery.
