Starting April 01, 2025, and ending after 6 years

A qualification agreement can be concluded after a contract duration of two years (§ 27 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement). Pursuant to WU’s Personnel Development Plan, this position can only be fixed-term for up to six years. Once all objectives agreed upon in the qualification agreement have been fulfilled, the employment relationship can be made permanent. Employees who have successfully completed a qualification agreement are classified as associate professors. From an organizational regulation perspective they belong to the group of professors. Three years after successful completion of the qualification agreement, they are entitled to apply for promotion to full professor according to the By-Laws of WU § 43a.   At Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU - “Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien”), we see the enormous potential of
  • recent advances of AI methods (Deep Learning, Large Language Models, Foundational Models, generative AI as such), paired with
  • established and robust algorithmic methods in Information Systems and Operations Management (such as Data and Knowledge Engineering, Process Mining, Scheduling, Optimization, Data Science) 
to disrupt the ways that business and economics will function. Our team of world class researchers in the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management approaches these novel challenges from various interdisciplinary perspectives.   For building up a new and innovative research group in the field of AI and Machine Learning and in alignment with the 15th Vienna Research Groups for Young Investigators call by WWTF [1], the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management at WU Vienna announces an Assistant Professor tenure track position with a qualification agreement for a group leader in the area of fundamental scientific advancement in the area of AI/ML. A special emphasis is to link AI theory with data and knowledge of other research fields and application areas represented at WU Vienna.

What you have to offer

  • Doctoral degree/PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or related fields such as  Information Systems with a focus on AI.
  • two to eight years post-doctoral research experience (care duties may extend this period up to four years) with experience in research fields such as Information Extraction, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Knowledge Graphs
  • Employment at a foreign research institution for at least two years in the last three years
  • Excellent publication record in the mentioned fields of research
  • Experience in acquiring and participating in third party funded research projects
  • You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.
