Woolpert is hiring a Sustainability Leader to support our growing sustainability work in Federal Planning, Community Planning, and across our markets and disciplines within the Building Sector. This position would support hybrid, or full-time telecommuter working arrangements, however candidates in areas geographically located near any of our Woolpert offices would be the secondary preference.
Responsibilities
Job Summary:
The primary responsibility for this position is to track, maintain and support projects with components of Sustainability related to high-performance and sustainable design strategies across our Mission Critical, Federal, Private, and Public markets, including oversight of the sustainability documentation and certification processes. This position also supports the Urbanism & Planning Discipline with a variety clients and project tasks across the Federal and Community Planning Teams, as well as supporting the production/execution of planning and programming projects and tasks within Federal and Community Planning projects.
Sustainability Focus:
Perform project specific Sustainability duties, as needed. Function as subject matter specialist providing project deliverable development oversight, creating/refining and implementing sustainability processes, and furnishing sustainability support to the project managers / production teams based on specific project requirements. Prepare high quality deliverables for projects. Function as a point of internal contact for sustainability related communication.
Essential Functions:
- Interprets, defines, organizes, executes, and coordinates sustainability and/or planning assignments.
- Contributes to project definition, scoping, structure, scheduling, and costing.
- Supports the sustainability program and coordinates technical direction for multiple projects of varying scope and complexity.
- Responsible for supporting the technical execution of segments of a sustainability and/or planning program with diverse requirements.
- Conducts literature reviews, field studies, inspections, interviews, surveys to collect original research data to support sustainability and/or planning projects.
- Gathers and analyzes statistical data to support sustainability and/or planning projects.
- Prepares project documents of various types including narrative reports, working papers, and other project documents as necessary.
- Prepares or directs the preparation of drawings, maps and other visual aids within CAD, GIS, and/or other graphical delivery platforms.
- Represents firm as technical sustainability resource at various client, agency, and group presentations.
- Directly contributes to support planning workshops, technical interchange meetings, charrettes, client meetings, and other project-related meetings.
- Participates in investigations of applications for variances of planning and zoning ordinances.
- Follows standard practices and collaborates with a mentor in skill development areas.
- Assists in development of less experienced staff with training and review of work product deliverables.
- Contributes to the development of theories, concepts, principles, and processes in the execution of quality deliverables that meet project/deliverable specifications.
- Communicates new scientific methods, developments, and practices through appropriate firm channels.
- Provides technical sustainability expertise in the preparation of proposals, presentations, and sales calls.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning or related.
- Minimum of 5 years related experience.
- Ability to effectively communicate in both internal and external applications for all essential job functions.
- Must be able to establish and maintain strong professional relationships both internally and externally.
- Familiar with discipline related software applications.
- Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret complex scientific and technical documents as well as to have the ability to apply them in new applications and studies.
- Must have creative critical thinking skills to gather relevant information to solve both unique and well-defined sustainability and/or planning problems.
- Must have the ability to work on several projects with competing deadlines simultaneously.
- Must have above-average verbal and written communication skills for both internal and external applications.
- Must be able to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, and/or members of the business community.
