About the role

Closing Date: May 16, 2024Reporting to the Senior Lead, Lands and Conservation, the Coordinator, Lands and Conservation is responsible for field support and data management associated with meeting Teck’s pursuit of Nature Positive and other sustainability initiatives including managing and optimizing the value and contribution of Teck Coal’s non-mining private lands, primarily in the Elk Valley. This includes developing and executing inspections, supervising contractors and supporting safe public recreational access to the non-mining private lands. To be successful, we are looking for someone with strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. This individual will have strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities with a proven capacity for practical problem-solving. Creating and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders is vital in this role. Join us in the breathtaking Elk Valley of British Columbia. Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Execute all private land inspections and associated Trigger Action Response Plans
  • Support the development and delivery of public use and awareness programs
  • Assist with critical risk reduction programs such as contaminated site mitigation, fire prevention planning and safe access
  • Support recreational access to private lands and implementation of Motor Vehicle Prohibition closure areas
  • Manage and maintain database containing timber harvesting information, agreements and rights
  • Provide field support in alignment with Teck’s pursuit of Nature Positive and other Teck sustainability initiatives including consultant support, collaboration with Indigenous Nations, regulatory agencies and local communities as well as supervision of contractors
  • Manage and track private land commitments and requirements
  • Support execution of private land invasive plant management

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in engineering or environmental science, or other related subject area, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum three years experience in progressive ecology sciences, biodiversity and cumulative effects in the natural resource sector
  • Technical knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry best management practices
  • Experience with environmental data management software, such as GIS - ArcMap, analysis and reporting
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with an applicable professional organization, such as College of Applied Biologists, BC Institute of Agrologists, Forest Professionals BC or Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, is an asset
