Position Summary:
The Saint Francis Heart and Vascular Institute, has an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider on the cardiac critical care service Our team consists of advanced practice providers who function autonomously and in collaboration with health care professionals to diagnose, treat and manage patient’s health problems. They independently develop diagnostic decision-making skills which allow for accurate assessment, appropriate intervention, diagnostic reasoning, and care planning with a holistic approach.
Our service manages a highly complex cohort of patients in an intensive care setting, to include traditional and complex cardiac surgical patients requiring Ventricular Assist Devices, as well as patients requiring acute heart/lung rescue with Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO.)
Distinct functions of the position include direct patient management, clinical decision making, bedside procedures (including central venous lines, arterial lines, and intubation) and teaching of patients, family, and staff.
Clinical works hours are variable including days, nights, weekends, and holidays with 14 shifts per four (4) week period. Our service is fully staffed 24/7 by APPs.
Essential Functions:
The Advanced Practice Provider responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Initiates and completes detailed and problem focused patient assessments.
· Diagnoses and initiates treatment plans for patients with complex acute health problems.
· Conducts daily rounds at bedside with multi-disciplinary members of the health care team.
· Writes and performs: History & Physicals, Daily and Interval Critical Care Progress Notes, Consults and Discharge Notes.
· Orders and initiates appropriate medications, treatments, and consultations based upon analysis of data collected.
· Orders and performs procedures such as central venous lines, temporary dialysis lines, arterial access, intubation, chest tubes, electrical cardioversion, and assists in the initiation and discontinuation of acute mechanical circulatory devices.
· Educates the patient and family regarding diagnosis, prescribed treatments, and medications.
Accountability
The Advanced Practice Provider reports to their Advanced Practice Provider Manager and upholds the clinical and ethical standards set forth by the Office of Advanced Practice and Medical Executive Office.
Qualifications:
Currently licensed as RN in the state of Oklahoma and certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) by the board of nursing. MSN required. Three (3) years of experience as a RN and/or at least one (1) year as an APRN, preferably in an ICU setting. Experience with transplant and/or cardiothoracic surgical patients preferred, however, willing to train an eager candidate. BLS/ACLS required.
Minimum Education: Has completed the basic professional curricula of a school of nursing as approved and verified by a state board of nursing, and holds or is entitled to hold a diploma or degree therefrom. Masters or higher level educational program in an advanced practice nursing area from an accredited collegiate program required.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Valid multi-state or State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse License. Valid State of Oklahoma APRN License with current Specialty Certification. Valid State of Oklahoma BON Prescriptive Authority Recognition.
Work Experience: 0-3 year related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Effective interpersonal, written and oral communications. Demonstrated patient care skills. Effective organization of multi-task role. Understanding of healthcare delivery processes in the medical setting.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Performs clinical services including assessment, intervention and evaluation of care within the scope of practice established by State Law. Consults and collaborates with physicians, other health care providers, and agencies to provide coordinated services to patients and their families. Documents services according to established policies and procedures, including preparation of the medical record, billing documents, and care plan(s).
