Job Summary
The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for gathering, analyzing, and documenting technical specifications and manufacturing requirements. The Systems Engineer provides input into new product designs to optimize production processes, implement new technologies, and improve overall quality. The position is an integral part of the Advanced Manufacturing team that reports through the Assistant General Manager of Operations. The successful candidate will join a team of highly performing professionals who pride themselves in developing innovative processes, setting industry standards for quality, and providing cost-effective designs. Job Function / Responsibilities
Requirements Gathering & Documentation
- Translate manufacturing needs into technical specifications for manufacturing systems.
- Provide simultaneous manufacturing engineering input to design engineering and coordinate plant feedback.
- Develop manufacturing and operations functional requirement documents and validation plans for software and hardware testing and programming.
System Configuration & Testing
- Configure MES systems, manage workflow changes, and conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) for new functionalities at truck plants.
Project Management
- Support engineering initiatives such as new product introductions (NPI) and capital projects, ensuring alignment with quality standards and project timelines.
- Develop, assess, and implement processes to test and validate new truck system technologies prior to production launch.
Quality & Engineering Support
- Assist in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and lead efforts in Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) where appropriate.
- Review and develop new technologies for manufacturing, assembly, programming, and testing of components and systems.
- Develop standard work documents and contribute to the creation and updating of new standards and procedures.
Qualifications / Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering, or related technical field.
- 3-5+ years of progressively complex engineering experience required.
- Training in DFSS and Advanced Quality Systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with the software development V-cycle is desirable.
- Understanding of J1939 communication protocols and heavy duty vehicle electrical architecture.
- Experience developing automated test routines for electrical systems is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent organizational, PC, and project management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities.
