About the role

The Royal Hobart Hospital and Department of Health is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Staff Specialist Clinical Haematologist vacancy.

We seek a skilled haematologist ideally with clinical and laboratory qualifications to be part of a dynamic Haematology service.

The Haematology Department provides comprehensive care to Tasmanian patients with benign and malignant blood disorders. Haematologists work in a multidisciplinary team and supervise advanced trainees and junior doctors. The culture of the unit is highly supportive and focussed on excellent patient care. There is also an active clinical trials unit.

The Role

Patient Care:

  • Provide consultant services in haematology for the care of inpatients and outpatients at the RHH, and where appropriate, in other hospitals across Tasmania.
  • Provide a comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic and on call service to facilitate tertiary care of haematology patients

Teaching:

  • Provide undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in haematology. 
  • Provide supervision and training to postgraduate specialist trainees.

Quality Improvement:

  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the services provided to patients.

Research:

  • Maintain an active involvement in research activities.

Administration and Management:

  • Provide administrative functions and participate in Hospital committee matters as required by the Executive Director Medical Services, the Chief Medical Officer or the Staff Specialist - Head of Unit Clinical Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant
  • Represent the Hospital on relevant Statewide or National Committees, as required.
  • Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, laboratory staff and other health professionals.

Actively participate in and contribute to the organisation’s Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes, including in the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives, safeguarding practices for vulnerable people, and related training.
