Position Title: Global Instructional Designer

Job Description: Reporting to Senior Director of Academic Strategies, the Global Instructional Designer is responsible for identifying and developing globally responsive appropriate pedagogical approaches to learning for all students based on emerging research in the field of learning science and higher education. This role has a focus in supporting global, inclusive, and personalized education through specialization in learning design and principles of accessibility that advance the university’s goals. As such, it requires demonstrated experience in instructional design in a global higher education setting and experience working with faculty and staff to create engaging and effective degree programs and courses that meet the needs of individuals of students from all backgrounds, as well as qualitative and quantitative research skills. The successful candidate will conduct gap and needs analysis employing varied research methods to identify the most appropriate global instructional strategies utilized to meet the academic needs of all learners. They will integrate research-based practices and principles into curriculum design and the development, implementation, and systematic evaluation of the quality of learning environments to identify the most appropriate solutions for global audiences. They will also utilize digital learning tools including: Google Suite, Miro, Microsoft Teams, Qualtrics, Asana, Articulate Rise, GoAnimate [Vyond], Illustrator, Photoshop, basic HTML/CSS, and Canvas learning management system, to develop online, hybrid, and on-ground courses and experiential learning activities (e.g., games, simulations). This role also requires experience designing for teaching English as a Second Language courses as the Global Instructional Designer will be developing courses and degrees taken by international students, who may be of diverse language backgrounds. In this role, the Global Instructional Designer will report findings from primary and secondary research, and best practices in the field to leaders within the institution. This position requires in-office presence 1-2 days per week on-site at the Boston, MA campus. Domestic travel required 5% of the time. Must attend team meetings on Boston, MA campus when scheduled and at least one conference per year as funds allow.

Job Requirements:

Requires a Master’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or a directly related field plus three (3) years of experience as a Learning and Development Specialist or a related occupation. Experience can be gained pre- or post-required degree completion

Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the following (experience may be gained concurrently):

  • Demonstrated experience in instructional design in a global higher education setting outside of the US.
  • Experience working with faculty and staff to create engaging and effective degree programs and courses that meet the needs of students from all backgrounds by applying inclusive pedagogy and globally responsive strategies that result in the academic success of all students.
  • Designing for Teaching English as a Second Language courses.
  • Integrating research-based practices and principles into curriculum design and the development, implementation, and systematic evaluation of the quality of learning environments to identify the most appropriate solutions for global audiences.
  • Conducting gap and needs analysis employing varied research methods to identify the most appropriate global instructional strategies aligned with the academic needs of learners.
  • Utilizing digital learning tools including: Google Suite, Miro, Microsoft Teams, Qualtrics, Asana, Articulate Rise, GoAnimate [Vyond], Illustrator, Photoshop, basic HTML/CSS, and Canvas learning management system, to develop online, hybrid, and on-ground courses and experiential learning (e.g., development of real-world simulations/games).
  • Conducting empirical research using qualitative and quantitative methods to inform instructional strategies for online, blended, and in-person teaching in an international setting.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing secondary and primary research findings and sharing results with an organization’s leadership or profession
