The SM-3 IIA Senior Principal Quality Engineer will be creating and executing strategic initiatives to improve quality throughout SM-3 production facilities.  This position will primarily be focused on Continuous Improvement activities in the Andover CCA Manufacturing Facility. You will partner with the program quality manager, program manager, program chief engineer, Andover CCA Production and Quality Leads, and other program stakeholders to work as a valuable partner with the program office and other functions. You will oversee quality efforts to ensure delivered products and services meet customer and Raytheon requirements, support program DD250s, champion risks and opportunities, identify and document gaps in expectations between extended customer base and the program implementation baseline, as well as organize cross-functional teams and utilize a data-driven approach to improve yields and quality metrics.

You will also interface with the Missile Defense Agency Assurance Representatives (MARs) on a regular basis to understand customer concerns within the production facilities and adjust engagement activities accordingly.

This is a hybrid role in Andover, Massachusetts


What You Will Do:

  • You will develop partnerships with senior managers, Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), and Factory Teams to oversee the implementation of Mission Assurance Provisions (MAP) as tailored on the Requirements Applicability Matrix (RAM) and Parts, Material, and Process (PMAP) requirements.
  • You will collaborate with MDA, Quality & Mission Assurance, and the Strategic Missile Defense (SMD) Systems Assurance Lead on technical assessments and/or PMAP to establish and verify requirements compliance.
  • You will create and execute a strategic plan to improve quality throughout SM-3 Andover CCA production facilities and new development activities.
  • You will assess technical risk of non-conformances utilizing critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • You will conduct process and product surveillance of all program activities, including system development through the whole life cycle, system maintenance, operations, and sustainment activities.
  • You will review of change requests to assess technical impact.
  • You will support and provide oversight for failure investigations.
  • You will plan, coordinate, and follow through of technical assessments and corrective actions.
  • You will organize cross-functional teams to plan for improvement events throughout the SM-3 Andover production facilities; utilizing existing data systems to identify what processes are most cost-effective to target for improvement.
  • You will interface with external and internal customers and key stakeholders to communicate strategy and provide updates after realized improvements.
  • You will drive Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) Methodology throughout SM-3 production facilities.
  • You may be required to travel up to 20% of the time

Qualification You Must Have:

  • Typically requires Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and ten (10) years of engineering experience in the following areas;
    • 10 years or more  working experience in the defense and aerospace industry.
    • Experience implementing strategic plans spanning more than 12 months.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Advanced Degree
  • Experience on Missile Defense Agency programs
  • Experience organizing and executing meetings with cross-functional partners
  • Experience in CCA manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience with SM-3 hardware and suppliers
  • Technical expert of small teams
  • Experience serving as an organizational spokesperson to Senior Product Line personnel
  • Product development in a DoD environment
