A Day in the Life of a CFO
As the CFO of the company, you will work directly with our President, our COO, and our senior-most leadership to help chart the course of the company's future. You will oversee all our financial activities, maintaining the integrity of accounting procedures, records and internal controls. You will help make decisions that support our bottom line and strengthen our mission.
You will lead a 20-person financial team that is currently in place, and will be actively engaged in the hiring of staff to grow your team. Your leadership will create a productive and supportive environment, fostering a culture of mentorship and collaboration to bring out the best in each team member.
This full-time position works a hybrid schedule, with at least three days a week in our corporate office in downtown Silver Spring, MD. We are located just outside of Washington DC, close to shopping, restaurants, and coffee shops. We're conveniently located two blocks from the Silver Spring Metrorail/MARC Station and bus depot. Our beautiful 8th floor suite offers stunning views of DC and surrounding Montgomery County. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit.
Qualifications of a Chief Financial Officer:
- Master's degree (MA) or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, plus 10-15 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Previous experience as a CFO, Deputy CFO required, ideally within a professional services organization
- Coach with strong management skills that brings out the strengths of others
- Energetic, forward-thinking, and creative individual with high ethical standards
- Strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus
- Effective communicator with the skills and ability to relate to people at all levels and with different backgrounds, with the ability to comfortably present complex material using various media to the Executive Team, leadership committees, and company staff
- Alignment with Toole Design's Shared Values
- Strong analytical and ERP skills (experience with Deltek Vantagepoint, Vision,or Costpoint, as well as municipal/state government contracting is a plus)
Responsibilities of a Chief Financial Officer:
- Effectively manage and mentor the accounting team, ensuring the entire team is working together effectively and efficiently, and fulfilling the accounting needs of the company.
- Oversee financial/accounting operations of the organization, including financial planning, budgeting, audits, forecasting, reporting, payroll, and key performance matrices per best practice.
- Oversee and manage all treasury functions, including cash management, financial investments, banking relationships, and tax strategy among others.
- Coordinate with all department leads to ensure resources are strategically allocated and effectively utilized and that Toole Design meets its annual financial goals and targets.
- Serve as a strategic partner to the Executive Team and other senior managers, counseling them on financial matters and the development of policy relating to improving the financial management
