Job Description Summary

Senior Manager of Manufacturing Engineering will have plant-wide leadership responsibility for planning, coordinating, and managing activities and initiatives that have broad organizational impact focusing on Engineer activities. Responsible for managing a manufacturing plant's sustaining engineering technology function. Accountable for the sustained operation, engineering and technology aspects of manufacturing equipment and processes required to meet the plant’s production volume, efficiency, quality, safety and cost objectives. Reports directly to the Associate Director of Engineering to specify and provide manufacturing systems and automation equipment to meet goals of the business.

Job Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing and evaluating medical devices and/or components by utilizing fundamental engineering principles including thermal analysis, fluid dynamics, mechanical design and test methods to ensure product quality, reliability, durability, safety and effectiveness. This position requires knowledge of engineering concepts, practices and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. The role is also expected to support the technical transfer of new products into manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs, develops, tests and evaluates complex mechanical components used in the production of medical devices.

  • Develops design solutions through the application of mechanical engineering principles and concepts.

  • Works under general direction and exercises considerable latitude in determining work priorities and methods.

  • Actively participates in cross functional teams to meet project objectives.

  • Applies statistical techniques and other appropriate methodologies to collect data, analyze results and draw conclusions regarding product performance.

  • Plans, executes and analyzes experimental simulations and tests on materials, subassemblies or finished products.

  • Conducts detailed analyses using mathematical models and computer programs to simulate and predict system behavior.

  • Communicates results to internal customers, suppliers, vendors and contractors.

  • Manages relationships with external customers and internal departments.

  • Ensures compliance with FDA regulations, company policies and ISO requirements.

  • Manages a team of engineers and technicians charged with maintenance, optimization, and upgrade of existing manufacturing equipment to achieve plant’s manufacturing goals. Participates in the purchase and install, start-up and validation of new equipment and/or processes as required to meet product specifications, requirements and manufacturing expectations.


Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Biological Sciences or Business is required.  Advanced technical (MS or PhD) and/or business management degree (MBA) is preferred.

  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years leadership experience with direct supervisor responsibility. 

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills required.

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles preferred.

  • Project management skills required.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with all levels within the organization.

  • Travel Requirements: 0–10%
