TEG Life Like Touring is looking for a Head of Audio to be responsible for the installation, implementation, and operation of all audio systems for the upcoming Australian tour of Gabby’s Dollhouse Live!

Contract Position: Weekly Fee + Per Diems (when applicable), all accommodation and travel provided (when away from home base).

All candidates must be Melbourne-based and available for all rehearsal and national tour dates from 17th February 2025 up to/around 29th April 2025.

The Role

The Employee shall perform all services customarily rendered by the Head of Audio of a first-class musical stage play (of the same quality and calibre as a Broadway/West End musical). Without limitation, the following employee duties shall include:

  • Advance of the tour, pre-production and planning, adapting existing touring documentation for distribution to venues.
  • Represent the Sound Designer’s interests and intentions in executing the touring version of the Production.
  • Attend rehearsals and production meetings ahead of the tour, familiarising yourself with the production and the touring staff.
  • Work alongside the Touring Audio Systems Technician to ensure pristine audio coverage throughout every touring venue.
  • Consult with the Production on the touring equipment rider and suppliers.
  • Prepare, test, and pack the touring equipment.
  • Ensure the safe transport of all touring audio equipment and systems.
  • Loading/Unloading touring equipment at each venue, including assisting heads of other departments unloading their equipment.
  • Oversee the install of production and stage audio elements, involving manual handling and working at heights.
  • Supervise a crew of local technicians to implement the sound design, interfacing with venue sound systems and integrating touring equipment into the rig. Manage local floor audio crew and direct them in their duties.
  • Oversee system checks, tuning, and alignment.
  • Test all audio cues, replotting where necessary to honour the execution of original audio content design.
  • Establish an operating position in each venue & operate the audio systems during the tour.
  • Troubleshoot and perform repairs on touring audio equipment as required.
  • Contribute to regular reports regarding the status of the tour, issues, or looming equipment requirements or changes.

Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of audio system protocols and procedures, signal flow, and equipment configuration.
  • Extensive experience operating a variety of digital mixing consoles.
  • A comprehensive background mixing live voice for theatrical performance, setting up and tuning radio microphone systems.
  • A thorough knowledge of QLab playback software.
  • Capable of carrying out manual handling tasks, comfortable working at heights, and able to lift 25kg loads unencumbered.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of "performance" etiquette, including a comprehensive knowledge of theatre traditions, protocol, and terminology.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of audio plans and documentation.
  • Possess a comprehensive general knowledge of electricity and safety procedures, testing and tagging, and workplace safety protocols.
