Job Description:

Role Synopsis

BPX Energy is seeking a skilled and driven Senior Surveyor to support our upstream development operations. This role is responsible for leading our survey activities that enable safe, efficient, and compliant development of BPX's oil and gas assets. The Senior Surveyor will oversee and manage third-party survey contractors in the collection of field data, survey-related deliverables, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of spatial data used in the different areas of the business.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in land surveying, upstream energy development lifecycle, CAD/GIS platforms, and land boundary analysis. This role requires strong collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and a proactive approach to problem-solving. The Senior Surveyor will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on data quality, workflow efficiency, and digital integration.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead survey operations across BPX’s onshore assets, ensuring timely and accurate data collection and product deliverables.
  • Plan and execute boundary, topographic, and construction surveys to support drilling, completions, facilities, and land development.
  • Oversee third-party survey contractors, ensuring deliverables meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Process, analyze, and validate spatial data for integration into CAD/GIS platforms and enterprise systems.
  • Ensure compliance with land use laws, permitting requirements, and internal standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align survey outputs with operational workflows and project timelines.
  • Maintain documentation and records of survey activities, including legal descriptions, plats, and geospatial files.
  • Identify opportunities to improve survey efficiency, data accuracy, and digital integration.
  • Support project planning by providing geospatial insights and technical expertise during site selection and infrastructure layout.
  • Support ad hoc requests and strategic initiatives that enhance the effectiveness and impact of the FEL team and broader organization, including contributions to cross-basin planning, innovation pilots, and enterprise-level programs.
  • Apply technical judgment and field experience to emergent needs, ensuring survey deliverables remain aligned with evolving priorities in development, operations, and strategic planning.
  • Champion continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, improve data quality, and strengthen collaboration across engineering, automation, and construction teams.
  • Uphold safety protocols and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Essential Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in onshore upstream oil and gas surveying or related land surveying projects
  • Strong understanding of land surveying principles
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficient in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Carlson Survey)
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams including drilling, completions, facilities, and land

Preferred Experience

  • State Professional Survey License
  • Track record of improving survey efficiency, data accuracy, or reducing cycle time
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for upstream oil and gas permitting
  • Working knowledge of enterprise GIS systems and data integration platforms
