About the role

As the Sr Insurance Underwriter, you will be an integral team member within our Voluntary Homeowners Insurance Division. You will be responsible for making decisions about whether to provide or continue insurance coverage while creating an environment that is easy for customers and clients to do business with. This includes evaluating applications and determining proper coverage amounts. You will be responsible for underwriting evaluations on more complex Homeowners and high-value insurance applications and coverages with limits up to $1.5M.  In addition, you will conduct research, development of procedures, conduct in-depth analysis of data, and problem-solving.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job? 

  • Screen applications based on set underwriting criteria

  • Contact external sales agents to obtain further information

  • Evaluate referral data from underwriting software

  • Determine the risk involved in insuring a property

  • Evaluate if coverage amounts are adequate

  • Documentation of account information and offer solutions for continued coverage.

  • Take appropriate underwriting action

  • Liaise with the team to gather information and opinions

  • Monitor inspection turnaround time and advise management if completion dates affect our underwriting review period.

What are the requirements needed for this position? 

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Three years of Ho3 Insurance experience

  • Two years of Agent or Underwriting Experience

  • Active Property and Casualty Insurance Agent’s license

  • Strong Microsoft Office suite

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have

  • Ability to quickly develop rapport with customers, clients, and peers over the phone in a professional and friendly manner.

  • Experienced in a fast-paced metric-driven environment with proficient multitasking and navigation in a Windows environment.

  • Knowledge and ability to use business-appropriate language regardless of the language used to execute first call resolution.

  • Willingness to adapt to a constantly evolving product and work environment.

  • Ability to develop relationship/partnership-building skills. Listen attentively, solve problems creatively, and use tact and diplomacy to find common ground and drive positive outcomes.

  • Obtaining extensive knowledge of the products and the ability to explain the benefits.

  • Effectively assess and diffuse difficult situations and escalate issues to appropriate leadership.

  • Supervisory experience managing, motivating, and developing employees is a plus.

Pay Range:

$18.23 - $29.17

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
