Job Description

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Licensed Professional Counselor will work directly with students, teachers, and parents to provide individual and group counseling as well as link families to long term counseling solutions and external support organizations across multiple campuses. The counselor will meet biweekly with their manager. He/she will provide support to all stakeholders to help the school achieve its mission to empower underserved students to achieve success in the nation’s most competitive high schools, top four-year colleges and universities, and to have the freedom to shape their futures and positively impact their communities

Depending on schools, the counselor may serve as part of the school’s leadership and work in conjunction with the principal, assistant principal, and assistant principal of operations to eliminate any obstacles that will get in the easy of a student’s learning at school. The LPC will work to support the social and emotional well being of our student population and will serve as a leader in the school community, supporting and equipping staff members with the skills they need to best support students

Key Responsibilities

• Complete culturally relevant, timely, and evidenced based  counseling for a range of students with various emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs
• Complete thorough, clear and concise counseling evaluations for students in special education or being considered for special education
• Consult and advocate with school teams and families to best support students in their natural learning environments with ongoing
• Efficiently and clearly complete documentation of services, goals, progress and continuing needs
• Coordinate people and other resources in the school, home, and community to promote student success. Use an Effective process when referring students, parents, and/or others t special programs and services
• Participate on school staff teams to develop policies and practices to prevent school violence and support opportunities for team-building and collaboration among students
• Create professional and functional learning goals each year; willing to offer support to and receive constructive feedback from colleagues in order to create a professional working atmosphere that is conducive to change and improvement
• Help shape and develop a school wide atmosphere that best suits the needs of our students, teachers, and families

Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications

• Valid Texas Licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Social Worker by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council
• Bilingual preferred (Spanish) 
• Demonstrated knowledge of counseling skills with individuals, groups and families
• Knowledge for working with an underserved populations
• Highly collaborative, resourceful and flexible
• Sensitive and responsive to the needs of others

Required Education and/or Experience: 

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience 
• Master's Degree in Education, Psychology, School Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or other relevant field

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

• Valid Texas Licensure as a Licensed
