This role will oversee the activities of the Payroll team, driving continuous improvement in payroll processes, compliance, and technology solutions across a large, multi-state organization. The Senior Payroll Manager will serve as a functional leader in payroll systems, tax reporting, and process optimization, ensuring alignment with company goals and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will excel in leadership, team development, and delivering high-quality service to employees and stakeholders. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Manage the overall payroll functions, including payroll processing and review for hourly, salaried, and temporary employees across multiple states; payroll taxes and tax reporting and administering regulatory requirements – e.g., garnishments, tax levies, support orders and other adjustments to pay as necessary
  • Regularly reconcile and audit payroll entries for accuracy and resolve discrepancies promptly
  • Leverage and maintain Ceridian/Dayforce payroll systems, staying updated on enhancements and updates
  • Expert regarding payroll concepts, regulatory changes and tax laws, including proactively monitoring and driving issues to quick resolution. Staying informed on wage, hour, and other payroll-related state and federal regulations to ensure compliance
  • Prepare, analyze, and submit regulatory filings and internal reports as required
  • Act as the payroll point of contact for audits, including internal and external reviews
  • Supervise and develop direct reports, providing training, coaching, and performance management
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments to address and enhance payroll operations
  • Drive continuous improvements in processes and systems by implementing best practices and recommending technological advancements
Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or relevant field
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in a multi-state environment
  • Experience with Ceridian/Dayforce payroll systems is required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of multi-state payroll systems, with strong expertise in large organizations
  • Proficiency in HCM tools and timekeeping systems
  • Advanced numerical, analytical, and interpretation skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver results in a dynamic environment
  • Able to pivot easily and exhibit flexibility
  • Sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting, sit for prolonged periods of time, and operate office equipment
  • Strong leadership capabilities with a commitment to team development and continuous improvement
