The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility.

This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Senior Pharmacist within the Pharmacy department. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

• This is a Registered Pharmacist position that will provide services at Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH).
• Performs the professional administrative and clinical functions involved with a large hospital pharmacy department.
• This includes interpreting physician’s orders and monitoring for drug allergies, drug/food interactions, therapeutic overlaps, informed consent and compliance with existing regulations.
• Provides computer input and manipulations of all patient data.
• Coordinates with physicians and nurses in a manner that provides maximum customer satisfaction.
• Provides direction to five pharmacy technicians on all matters pertaining to the practice of pharmacy.
• Serves as a Drug Information Specialist for all patients and staff.
• Consults with physicians, nurses and other hospital staff regarding disease assessment and medications management, with emphasis on improving treatment outcomes.
• Assists the Pharmacy Manager by providing input on new and innovative pharmacy practices or procedures that will improve pharmaceutical care.
• This responsibility may require literature search and continuing education programs.
• This function will have due consideration for efficient and cost-effective operation. Participates in the Clozapine Patient Management System.
• Performs medication regimen reviews as required.
• Processes all controlled drug transactions in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
• Maintain and monitors the perpetual inventory of controlled drugs.
• Completes the biennial controlled substances inventory, as required by Federal Regulations.
