What Will Do You
Hot Section Engineering (HSE) at Pratt & Whitney is looking for an experienced and highly motivated engineer to join its team as a Combustor Durability Senior Engineer (P3) in our East Hartford, CT location. The Durability Discipline is highly specialized with particular focus on advanced cooling designs, aerodynamics, heat transfer, lifing, coatings, high-temperature aerospace alloys, and manufacturing. Durability analysis processes include thermal analysis, combustor life calibration, heat transfer, fluid flow, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses and are necessary to support the design, development, validation, production implementation and management of advanced and operational engines flying across the globe. Durability executes engineering tasks for various Integrated Program Deployment (IPD) phases including concept initiation and optimization, preliminary and detailed design, verification and validation, and in-service support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute designs and analyses of Combustor hardware to drive continuous improvement in durability part metrics and tools utilizing ESW/EKS with moderate oversight.
- Mentor and technically guide durability engineers in executing durability analysis by leveraging advanced knowledge of durability analysis processes and ESW/EKS.
- Assess manufacturing non-conformances, field limits and test engine execution; includes hardware delivery, life predictions, test monitoring and post-test data collection.
- Perform operator mission life, test engine validation analyses and field/test model calibration.
- Interface with numerous internal and external customers and suppliers (Ops, suppliers, MRO, and airlines).
- Active & engaged participant in an IPT/CIPT.

Qualifications You Must Have
- BS in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
- 5 years of engineering experience, 3 years with an advanced degree
- U.S. Person or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required
Qualifications We Prefer
- Advanced in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience with jet engine combustor design, analysis and manufacturing processes
- Proficiency in technically guiding and mentoring aero-thermal engineers, with experience in Combustor heat transfer, fluid dynamics, material science, statistics (particularly Weibull analysis), and deterioration analysis.
- Knowledge of lifing failure modes and mission life modeling for typical limiting modes such as oxidation, corrosion and TMF
- Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills

Hot Section Engineering (HSE)
Hot Section Engineering is responsible for the design, development, technology maturation and in service support of all diffuser cases, combustors, turbines (vanes, blades, rotors and cases), augmenters (military), nozzles and associated fuel systems for all military, commercial and industrial engine models and radial auxiliary power units.
Technical disciplines in HSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Durability and Product Definition.
