About the role

The Senior Manager, Scientific Materials and Professional Training, will assist with the preparation and delivery of learning content for a rare disease endocrinology medical affairs organization. The individual will also help support the management of a learning management system (LMS) associated with the documentation of a formalized training plans for a US Medical Affairs onboarding curriculum, inclusive of 3 rare endocrine disorders.

This role will be tasked with partnering with other Scientific Material and Professional Trainers who in conjunction with subject matter experts, will identify, develop, and deliver disease, product and skill-based training programs within medical affairs as well as the clinical development organization. The Senior Manager will also partner with Human Resources, and other internal Ascendis stakeholders to ensure the implementation of resources and programs that enhance customer engagement, improve knowledge and skills for field-based representation in alignment with the policies and direction of the organization.

This individual will also work with the training leadership to transition knowledge and training resources to the Commercial Learning and Development and other Medical Affairs Department Heads as needed. Additionally, the Senior Manager of Scientific Materials and Professional Training will help create and deliver professional development resources and emerging manager programs in partnership with Human Resources and internal stakeholders, while also supporting learning management system updates.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of the learning strategy of the Medical Affairs and Clinical Development organization, building the skills necessary to execute on field and internal objectives for the Endocrinology Rare Disease portfolio. The training will initially focus heavily on onboarding and field activities, but also incorporate soft skills competencies.
  • Partner with various departments, subject matter experts and key stakeholders to identify training needs, improve training solutions and lead change initiative implementation while ensuring the content is current, effective, and compliant.
  • Contributes to establishing and maintaining a culture which promotes excitement for lifelong learning across the Medical Affairs (MA) community, starting with the maintenance of an effective onboarding program that drives consistency of knowledge in Medical Affairs.
  • In alignment with the MA training strategy, leads the development, execution and implementation of training activities for the Medical Affairs community, through collaborative partnerships with process owners, including internal stakeholders and cross-functional partners (e.g., Clinical Development) with support of the training leadership.
  • This candidate utilizes effective planning tools and ensures all training development and compliance standards are maintained.
  • He/she identifies and drives training innovation, through best-in-class methodology and technology, considering adult education principles, in order to lead training for a Medical Affairs community and its key partners/stakeholders.
  • Support the identification, design, development, approval and implementation of modules and materials, as well as the technology tools (LMS) required for implementation
  • Collaborate with and support, as needed, relevant internal departments including Field Leadership, Market Access, Patient Support, Compliance and HR to develop appropriate training.
  • Effectively prepare for instruction by conducting needs assessments, identifying targeted participant characteristics, and soliciting cross-functional feedback before finalizing design and strategy.
  • Offer solutions for bridging gaps between current organizational capabilities and needs.
  • Analyze the characteristics of existing and future technologies and their use in instructional design.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of Biotech/Pharma experience in the biotech industry and a terminal degree (DNP, Ph.D. Pharm.D. etc.) required
  • Biotech/Pharma or academic training experience required
  • This individual should be familiar with field medical needs, process oriented and have a problem-solving mentality focused on continuous improvement
  • Track record of designing and executing successful training programs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels within an organization
  • Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to gather, disseminate, and present information in a logical, professional, and audience-appropriate manner
  • Successful track record in developing partnerships with a diverse and distributed workforce
