Referral Specialist dedicated to Physical and Occupational Therapy Departments within Bon Secours Piedmont Orthopaedics. Full time position that requires onsite daily work. Below is list of responsibilities.

  • Obtains and maintains Precertification/ Authorization and benefits for all therapy patients (Physical and Occupational Therapy)

  • Assigns therapy appointments to the referral for accurate benefit tracking

  • Manages Therapy referral Workqueue

  • Collaborates and supports therapists, front desk and medical assistants.

  • Discusses therapy benefits and answers questions regarding therapy coverage.

  • Provides patient cost estimates for therapy services

  • Calls and schedules patients who are in referral workqueue 

  • Provides assistance to patients by faxing orders to other therapy locations upon request.

  • Manages Epic Message center and department messaging pools to assist staff and patients.

  • Keeps up with variety modes of communication including Outlook email and MS Teams.

  • Monitors Proficient/ Right Fax- sending and receiving secure information.

  • Manages Therapy Department Phone Line (Incoming calls)

  • Manage Wait list for therapy department to maintain high fill rate

  • Any other items related to assistance in department

  • Maintains patient privacy and adheres to BSMH code of conduct.

Employment Qualifications

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  2 years’ experience in a medical office setting required.  Ability to operate office equipment to include computer, fax machine and copiers, and familiarity with practice management and EMR systems(EPIC preferred). Knowledge of medical terminology. Requires strong computer skills, ability to multi-task and good understanding of medical insurance coverage/benefits and authorizations.
