Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) seek a proactive and detail-oriented Accounting Manager. This job reports to the Assistant Controller in the Finance Department of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer of PPFA. The Finance Department provides confidence to all stakeholders in the fiscal and fiduciary responsibility of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) and its related entities, and Planned Parenthood Global (PP Global) and its related entities (collectively the Organizations) with a commitment to customer service, sound controls, compliance monitoring, and timely, accurate, and complete reporting, analysis and decision support to further the Federation’s mission.
Purpose: The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing and reviewing the work of staff accountants, ensuring journal entries and account reconciliations are prepared on a timely basis and overseeing the accounts receivable function. They will support the Assistant Controller in the completion of timely and accurate monthly closes, understanding trends, analyzing variances, and exercising critical thinking as they collaborate with the Finance leadership team.
Delivery: ● Oversee the timely accounting review and general ledger classification/coding of all expenses processed through procurement and expense management systems. ● Review monthly bank reconciliations and coordinate with other departments to properly record cash receipts and disbursements. ● Support Assistant Controller in the monthly, quarterly, and fiscal year-end closing activities and annual audit, including preparation of financial statements and notes. ● Supervise accounts receivable function and collaborate with other departments to identify and properly classify all cash receipts and receivables. ● Perform other duties as assigned.
Engagement:● Works closely with members of the Finance team and other PPFA departments to accurately record financial transactions.● Manage and develop staff accountants to ensure quality of the information reported.● Collaborate with Revenue Accounting Manager and Senior Accountants to support account reconciliations and complete a timely and accurate monthly close.● Coordinate with Program and Grants Financial Management to ensure spending of grant funds is properly classified and reported.● Collaborate with the IT department to build and improve integrations between accounting systems and other finance systems.● Occasionally communicates with external parties to obtain information on cash receipts and disbursements needed to properly record and apply transactions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.● CPA is highly preferred.● Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible professional accounting and financial management experience.● Strong knowledge of US GAAP and ability to conduct accounting research.● Proficient in Sage Intacct or other accounting software and Microsoft Excel.● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.● Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.● Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.● Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with a dynamic, fast-moving team, completing multiple tasks with poise, accuracy, and confidence.● Strong organizational, analytical, an
