INSTRUCTOR BUS OPERATIONS

EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent. Four years’ experience in transportation operations to include a
minimum of two years’ experience as a transit bus operator. A minimum of two years’ experience in skill
based adult education or training is preferred. Proficient PC skills in word processing, spreadsheet
applications, and training or learning management systems applications. Experience in developing and
delivering skills-based training programs required. Thorough knowledge of Authority operating rules and
discipline codes. In addition to the above requirements, additional experience/qualifications in the
following areas are highly desirable: MARTA Customer Service Trainer Certified, computer-based
training courseware development, and knowledge of ADA policies and procedures.
INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments
SUMMARY
Under general supervision, conducts classroom and on-the-job instruction for Professional Bus Operators.
Provides development and/or acquisition of training programs and materials for classroom and on-the-job
training. Recommends improvements to existing training programs. Monitors and evaluates the progress
of employees in training and identifies performance deficiencies. Assists Bus Operations in identifying
training needs. Completes, submits, and maintains accurate up to date training records, required reports,
and schedules. Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conducts classroom and on-the-job instruction for all operators, supervisors, contractors, and
emergency personnel to enhance the knowledge and improve the skills and abilities necessary for safe
service delivery and increased system efficiency.
2. Provides for the development and/or acquisition of training programs and materials for classroom and
on-the-job training. Recommends improvements to existing programs.
3. Monitors and evaluates progress of employees in training. Identifies performance deficiencies and
recommends future training. Reports to the Senior Instructor when training deficiencies are identified.
4. Completes, submits, and maintains a variety of accurate up-to-date training records and files, course
curriculum, safety records, required reports, and training schedules (both manually and computerized).
5. Conducts behind-the-wheel training for certifications/re-certifications, and other regulatory and
departmental training and re-training as required.
6. Does follow up quality service inspections on Professional Bus Operators.
7. Completes other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must currently possess Commercial Driver's License with bus passenger endorsement.
